Warning to those who use Facebook, Twitter, etc...

If you use Facebook, Twitter, or any other social networking site to promote your shop, please take this as a heads up---would hate it if any Etsians fell into this trap!

On Twitter, I got various messages saying:

"OMG, someone is complaining the product you just sold them."
"Look at these pics my friend posted of you. How embarrassing!"

(There were at least 10 different messages from 5 different users)

With the message there was a link. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. It will spread viruses through your computer, and/or it's just a rip off spammer trying to get you to buy something. (my friend clicked---needless to say, it was a mess to clean up.)

Oh, I had a similar one on Twitter a while ago. It said 'have you seen this? someone is saying horrible things about you'. I kept getting so much spam there I ended up deleting my account.

Thanks for the warning! I had so many problems caused by a virus on my last PC that I had to switch to a new computer. I'm very cautious on what I click now, but every so often I still don't pay attention and open something by accident. So thanks for sharing and bringing this to our attention :)

I had the message twice about the horrible things said about you. I deleted them from my account immediately. Almost deleted my account because you do get a lot of spam on Twitter.

I'd suggest dont click "allow" if any links on facebook asks you so. It takes all your details you have on your personal profile (like name, gender, location, email ID's, contact numbers if you have posted)
There are lot of spams on facebook these days :-l

That would tip me off that it was spam. I see that kind of stuff a lot and ignore it. I only click on links from accounts I recognize.

I had a simliar message about a year ago.
Thankfully I didn't click on it. I logged into twitter and it was flagged as suspicious, so I just deleted it from my email.

Those scammers don't give up!

I would also like to add, each time you login to a site always double check and make sure the url is accurate in your browser. A lot of times the links listed in those spam messages link to spoof sites that look like Facebook, Twitter, Paypal etc. They then prompt you to login.

Once you enter your login information on their bogus signup page they have just what they need to access your account.

I'ld like to let my other groups know of this too! I ordered something from Amazon and now someone keeps sending me emails (Phishing). They told me not to open anything or give them any personal info. I knew this already but it's good to hear it again.
