Showed up FIRST in a search of 12,000!!!

Okay this is a TOTAL first for me but I showed up FIRST in a search of over 12,000 for keyword "soft infinity scarf" ... woohoo!!!!! Total shock.

Too bad I have decided to close my shop in November for awhile (and maybe ever) :(. I knew that would happen. Just when I figured things out.

you are pretty much guaranteed to be on the top row of page 1 until more new listings show up relevant for that.

Yeah, I just cannot keep up with Etsy. I feel like I am constantly trying to improve my shop, looking at other shops to see how they do things, promoting my shop, etc and therefore I am CONSTANTLY on my computer. And it doesn't always bring in the sales. I get the majority of my sales from friends and friends of friends via Facebook anyway. Since i am a working mom of 3 under 9 years of age, I just feel like my life is going way to too fast ... I may open up my Etsy shop down the road but for now i think I am just going to stick to Facebook sales and fairs/show like twice a year. It's enough for me.

Alex -- HOW did you figure out that there are only 9 listing relevant for soft infinity scarf? That's the area where I feel dumb. My stats shows 4 searches for the term -- the most I have ever had for one keyword phrase in one day!!

It shows 12,720, creativeglo's is 5th for me. Not sure why you got a different number alex

Daniel, what Alex means is that only 9 items are optimally relevant (via tags and titles) for the search.

So, out of the 12,000 items, only 9 of them are both tagged and titled "soft infinity scarf" - because of this, anyone who tags and titles their item "soft infinity scarf" will be on the first page of the search.

Possibly the reason more items aren't optimized for "soft infinity scarf" is because it's not a search that a lot of people do, but it is hard to know without doing the research.

The 12,720 is the total number of search results. Relevant search results are usually those that have the exact search phrase in the title and in a single tag. Usually there are more than 9 but occasionally you find one that has only a small number of relevant listings.

Gloria, congratulations. But why not keep your shop open and just renew your items as added exposure. I guess, the more active you are the bigger possibility for you to show up in SEOs.

Gloria, I can relate to "spending hours on my computer". When I first opened, that was me too. I wouldn't want to miss time with my children either. I am a retired grandma so have some time to waste. But now that my shop is established I don't need to spends hours at it. Just keep that in mind for down the road. Best wishes to you!

Mary, thanks :). It is a dream to sell things I make. And I have better than I ever dreamed but it's a ton of work. I feel like I am working all. the. time. And even though I love the compliments and the customers and shipping to international countries -- I get tired of making things constantly now and feel like I am always on a deadline. I am waiting until Nov 1st b/c I recently asked a photographer to take pictures of my pieces to see if they would sell better in my shop. And the photos are beautiful! But so far, hasn't done anything. A few more views, and that's it. I think that's what I am frustrated about -- all the work doesn't always pay off. And I really suck at SEO :). I just don't get it. Even with 2 college degrees. I am talented in other areas !! HA! My 8 year old daughter really wants to play a part and I think with shows she can help me so much more.
