renewing an item

Ok so ive been participating in a lot of etsy team games lately with the favorites and views. i didnt quite understand the point until one of the posts said that the more favrites and views you get the quicker it comes up on the default relevancy search for etsy. which is good. so now im worried about renewing my items to put them up on the search tabs quicker. do i lose all of my views and favorites when i renew an item??

No, you don't lose them. I don't know if what you heard about relevancy searches and views is true. I've heard that's not how it works, but I can't say for sure.

then why do so many people and teams participate in the promotion games like favorites and stuff? what do favorites do then??

I believe that favourites from search and actual views from search help with ranking, while favouriting each other's items in games increases exposure only. It may not be a bad thing - if more people see your items and put them in treasuries, then more people know about your shop. It depends on how you want to spend your time.
