Shop Review

Hi Everyone! I have been lurking and learning as much as I can :) This is such a great group!

I took a leave of absence to change my brand focus and my products a bit and now I'm back. I was wondering if you would be open to a review of my shop. It would be greatly appreciated! I am looking for what you do and do not love about it - constructive criticism!

Thank you so much.

Re: Shop Review

I think your shop is lovely, your name is great, your SEO is not terrible, your item descriptions look pretty good.

Policies, I'll just enumerate the concerns as I read through them on one of your listings:

1. You are, per paypal (and Etsy, for that matter, if you take direct checkout) responsible for loss or damage during shipping. Insurance doesn't protect the buyer - they are protected by paying through paypal. Insurance protects you (or self-insurance, which is how we do it).
2. Why must someone contact you before purchase for a priority upgrade? Etsy has the functionality to make shipping options at checkout now, so there's no need for that - you can make it so people can choose priority shipping when they check out without contacting you.
3. Tracking is included with USPS First Class international to most locations.
4. Average shipping times to Canada, Western Europe and Australia are, in our experience, closer to 1-2 weeks. Maybe one in 30 packages takes more than 2 weeks.

SEO:
Do you find that people search for organic cotton teething necklaces a lot? I ask because the phrase is near the front of each of your titles; we do exclusively organics too but we don't get a lot of searches for it, so I don't put it in every title and certainly not always before the actual name of the thing I'm selling.

I'd think phrases like "Teething Necklace" and "babywearing necklace" and "teething jewelry" and etc. would be closer to the front, so they are in the part of your title people see when searching in gallery mode.

Also, every title is almost identical - I bet there are a lot more phrases you can optimize for, and using different ones for your various listings in the titles would help you get more views.

Re: Shop Review

Hi! Thank you so much for all your wonderful suggestions!! I went through and edited all my titles and based them on the top keywords that bring people to my shop! Also, I changed my policies - I had no idea you could add priority shipping - so I found that and made that an option :)

Thank you again!

Re: Shop Review

For good SEO (which I think is your weak point at the moment, as photography is excellent) you need to repeat your title in the tags. So if you have a phrase in the title like "nursing necklace", that must also be one tag. For this item, for instance:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/201114942/nursing-necklace-teething-necklace?ref=shop_home_feat_1

(which is lovely!)

The title and tags both probably need some work. Your title doesn't need your shop name in it; using every character available in a title isn't necessary (it clutters up the screen on a tablet or phone, covering the photo, and there's some evidence it may reduce the relevancy standing you get for the phrases you have in it). So just do what's necessary, and try not to repeat a word or phrase more than twice. The current title is "Nursing Necklace, Teething Necklace - Yellow and Beige - Organic - Babywearing Necklace - Milk and Joy - Gift for New Mother"

I might go (assuming you've done the research and those phrases are good ones for people looking for your items) with something like "Nursing Necklace - Yellow and Beige Organic Babywearing Necklace, Gift for New Mother"

Then the tags would include:
nursing necklace
yellow and beige
organic babywearing
babywearing necklace
gift for new mother

(plus all the rest)

Every listing cannot be relevant for every term that fits it, right? It wouldn't work even if you could fit it all in there because for the big searches, Etsy only allows 1 item per shop on the first page.

So it makes a lot more sense to split up the most popular phrases between items (in the title - put everything in the tags). Some of your necklaces can be titled "teething necklace" and others "babywearing necklace" and others "nursing necklace" and others "babywearing jewelry" and etc. Use 2 or three of those sort of phrases per title, not 5.

Also, you're the first result (yay!) for "gift for new mother," which is really good.

But you're nowhere to be found in "gift for new mom," which is also a search suggested by Etsy.

The Suggested searches (basically, start typing something like "teething necklace" in the search bar and see what Etsy shows in the drop-down) are phrases that are commonly searched on Etsy; they're a very good source of new keywords and phrases for your items :)
