Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I'm trying to decide whether or not to use Etsy's Direct Checkout! How's it working for you! Any pros...or cons????

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I've heard good and bad things. If you haven't already, read through the FAQs about direct check out. They cleared up a lot of questions for me and I've decided to give it a try.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I signed up just yesterday. Plan to see how it goes for a couple of weeks and then decide whether or not to keep it.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I just set mine up a few days ago, but my grandma did it before me and she's had quite a few sales using it, so I figured I would give it a try as well :)

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

Most of my customers are using the direct checkout. I'm just wondering if I would've had the sales with just Paypal.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

Etsy is more secretive when it comes to direct checkout than Nixon was.

What bank are they using?
What's the phone number?
Why don't sellers get interest while etsy is holding the money, because etsy gets interest?
Why not allow sellers to default to PayPal while accepting DC?

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I use DC, and since I started, most sales are using it. I am not too happy with etsy hanging on to the money until it's shipped, but all in all, I am ok with it, I ship fast anyway. Some people don't like paypal, so it may bring more sales.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I disagree with Etsy's policies regarding DC - including the ones mentioned earlier by @KoutureCrochet. The fact that Etsy holds on to the money for 3 days and then it takes another couple of days to clear your bank account is pretty frustrating. However, I included direct checkout in order to serve my customers better. At this point, about half of my total sales are with DC. When you look at just international sales, most of them are DC, since Paypal isn't as widespread as it is in the US.

As a seller, I recommend adding DC. Not because it's a great option, but because it's easier for your customers.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

24 of my last 34 orders have been paid with direct checkout. I like it for my shop but like I've said before it's not for everyone so that is why we have the choice to use it or not. :)

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I just signed up last week and as soon as I got the A-OK from Etsy, I got 2 orders with direct checkout (why don't they just call it Credit Card?!). I haven't got the money yet, but it was right before the weekend. I would rather have the money immediately like Paypal, but as long as I get it I'll be fine. So, I guess it's good for customers and any money is good money.

Just don't make any mistakes because then what?!

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I've had not problems with it -
I'd estimate that 3 out 4 of my customers use it so they seem to like it.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

Has anyone had any issues with etsy not giving you your funds? The idea that etsy hold your money bothers me only because what if i ship the items and i never get the funds from etsy? Is that possible?

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

Kristy, as soon as I mark the item shipped & enter the deliery confirmation # the funds are scheduled for deposit into my account. It usually takes 3-5 days from that point for them to become available.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

My experiences with DC have been positive, all of my sales have been through DC since I enabled it. One sale happened late Friday night. I shipped the order Saturday morning, and my money was already on its way to my account when I got up today. As long as you have shipped the item, they will send your money to your bank account on Monday morning unless you request an earlier deposit. The delay for the deposit to post to my account is no worse than Paypal or when I deposit a check into my bank account, and the fees for DC are cheaper than Paypal for most of my items.

I prefer being able to give my customers options for payment. Some people out there refuse to use Paypal for various reasons, others may not be comfortable leaving a website to input payment information since that's one of the routes for identity theft when shopping online.

Etsy didn't hold my money long enough to collect even a penny of interest from it. Also, I'm not sure how it matters to any of us what bank Etsy is conducting their business through. The money that you pay Etsy for your fees is probably going to the same bank anyhow. If you can't trust a company to make responsible and ethical business decisions, then maybe it's not a company you should do business with.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

I just signed up today. I'm not overly thrilled with the amount of time they hold onto the money (and charging to do so on top of that), however, it's all about making things easier on the buyer. (That's what I'll keep telling myself.)

If it means opening up a new avenue for potential buyers who might be turned away if I didn't offer it; it will be worth it.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

Half of my customers use direct check out. You don't actually receive money until you mark the order shipped. if you need to use the money to buy materials for that order, it might be tough. I just buy my yarn whenever it's on sale, so it doesn't matter to me.

Also, I like that the direct check out fee is cheaper than the Paypal fee when one order is less than $50.

Re: Should I Join Direct Checkout!!

A majority of my sales are now through direct checkout. And I have noticed an increase in multiple purchases from customers at the same time. If you have not started using direct checkout you are doing yourself a serious disservice, my sales have tripled since activating it!
