Sales from Pinterest

Just curious...do you feel you get sales from Pinterest? I constantly have people pinning my items on Pinterest and therefore I get quite a bit of traffic from there, however I've only really been able to track one sale from there because the only view to that print that day was from Pinterest and then the print was purchased.

I wish I could turn more Pinterest views into sales! Any ideas how?

Thanks!

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I haven't gotten any sales from Pinterest that I'm aware of. I don't pin my items very often because I don't want to encourage other paper crafters to copy them. Not that they can't do it from here but why make it even easier by putting them on Pinterest?

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I've had a number of sales from being seen on Pinterest.

How do I know? I simply ask my customers how they found my shop.

But I've also had many sales from people who found me through Facebook and I don't even have a FB account. Its all been from word of mouth.

If you want to turn pinterest views into Pinterest sales, then be sure that your target customer is shopping via pinterest.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I have noticed when friends pin my items, the views in my shop go up. No sales yet from pinterest. I am considering opening my own pinterest page... as it is I spend so much time here on Etsy I get distracted from sewing!

Re: Sales from Pinterest

How can you tell if a sale comes from pinterest? I guess I would have to ask them :)

Re: Sales from Pinterest

Michelle, you should be able to see your traffic in your stats or in your Google Analytics.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I didn't even consider pinterest as a way to get direct sales. Right now I only pin pics of the things I'm working on (sort of like you use instagram). I'm gonna start today with pinning things already in shop.

I also have a shared pinboard with etsy shops from friends. There we pin product pictures of other shops that we think are very good. This way we inspire each other for product photo's.

I get repinned a lot, but I've only had 2 customers tell me they discovered me on Pinterest ... there may be more who haven't told me!

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I have to say I get just as much traffic from Pinterest as I do Google!! It has proved to be a HUGE marketing tool for me. Every time you are pinned your item is sent into the front page feed of the followers of the board you were pinned to. It's quite similar to someone favoriting your item here on Etsy. Of all of my Social sites, Pinterest gives me the most success currently. It simply rocks.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

Livia I totally agree! For those of us whose target market is moms, Pinterest is huge! Every repin of my items is to a "nursery ideas" board or a "so and so's bedroom" or a "future baby ideas" board. So I find it to be the best social site for promoting my items as well. I guess I just need to wait until those "future babies" become real ones and their moms need to decorate. :-)

I just wish there was a way to reach out to those people pinning your stuff...so maybe you could give discounts or special offers if they buy.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Can you contact people on Pinterest somehow? It kind of seems spammy.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

My suggetion for that would be to put together a picture & put one of your items on sale with the price, your Etsy shop web address, coupon code & date the saleends on it & pin it! Let it run for atleast a month so it circulates. Try it with just 1 item first. That way you'll know it's coming from Pinterest ;)

Re: Sales from Pinterest

Livia -- do you not pin directly from your shop? You would suggest to make your own pin? I am not sure how to do that :)

Re: Sales from Pinterest

Remember if you pin a sales graphic with a price and people repin it will be on Pinterest forever.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

Steve- what if you delete the pin? Will it still be pinned on those peoples boards? And if it is, it will have an expiration date for the sale so they would know.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I have a lot of pinterest followers, but am not sure if I have sold any from the site. I imagine that a lot of Pinterest followers have visited my store, but its hard to say.

I have had very little luck (virtually nil) with Facebook and don't really care much for using it.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

Maria, You can delete from your boards but I believe the repins stay up. It's fine if you don't mind having sale info floating around after the sale is over. But I'm really not into running sales. I can barely make enough items as it is.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I've definitely had luck with pinterest! I have two items in particular that seem to not only get repinned quite often, but are sold about as often as they are pinned. I never expected those two to be my best-selling items, but I guess that's the way it works sometimes.

I do have just about as much luck with Facebook as I do Pinterest, but I have over 3000 fans on Facebook and include share-able quotes on a lot of my images, so they are shared, with the shortened Etsy link from Bit.ly so I can track what goes where. Seemed to work out great for such little effort.

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I get a lot of traffic and sales from Pinterest. I think it's important to make your boards diverse, interesting and not all about your Etsy shop. I want people to get a sense of who I am, what interests me and what motivates me to find things for my shop. I hope I've succeeded. Even if it weren't a successful marketing tool, I sure have fun pinning!

Re: Sales from Pinterest

Pinterest is my third largest source of views. So although I can't be certain, I would guess I've gotten sales from there. I think it's a wonderful marketing tool...not to mention free and fun!

Re: Sales from Pinterest

When Pinterest first started, items with prices had a banner across the corner which made items for sale really jump out. This disappeared several months ago; is there any way to get this effect now? I have a personal Pinterest account, as most of my boards are personal!

Re: Sales from Pinterest

I have gotten at least 1 sale from pinterest, but I haven't asked others where they found me, and that would be an awesome idea to do. I love having my items on pinterest though...even if they don't buy...its free advertisement...and I definitely need that. ALSO, I just received an email letting me know that an item I Pinned from another esty store lowered its price....NOW THAT, I thought, was awesome. Thinking about maybe having a sale to see if it attracts more pinterest interest ;-)
