SEO/ Keyword question

I watched the video from etsypreneur about SEO and google adwords, went through and updated my listings to improve their visibility but when I look at my google analytics there isn't any improvement in traffic brought in by keywords.
Does it generally take some time for the keywords to begin to work for search engines?
I noticed when you list or edit something you get a message about it taking up to 24 hours for listings to show up in searches/search engine results.

Elizabeth - It can take longer than 24hrs for google to recognize these changes. Try searching for an item that you changed and see how the google search result looks!

At the end of the video it says that it can take up to six months to be able to see obvious results so don't be disheartened if you don't see any improvements straight away. Online business is like planting seeds - taking action and then letting the results manifest.

I must have missed the very end! Six months is a while but it is good to know that it is normal to not see any immediate results
