Photographing Headbands

Has anyone who sells headbands noticed a trend in which photographed method produces the most views/sells? Like, having the main picture be someone actually wearing the headband, on a mannequin, or simply laying flat?

And for those who don't sell headbands, but have bought, which listings do you click on more?

Thanks in advance! :)

Re: Photographing Headbands

I photograph my head bands/wraps on a mannequin, basic shots from different angles. If I've had any customer pictures come in, I'll occasionaly add them in the last few pictures of the listings : ) I get steady views/likes with this way.

Re: Photographing Headbands

Well, when thinking of pictures for my listings I consider the following:

Etsy marketing point of view:
- Would it look good in a treasury or on the front page of etsy?
- does it have the same style as the pictures of other items in my shop?

From a buyer point of view:
- Does the picture show the color, size texture and detail?
- Does it give me an idea of how the item will look while being worn?

Based on that I usually make the Treasury/FP/ShopStyle picture the first, one with someone (usually me) wearing it or a similar one, and one with the back and packaging.

Example:

I'm not very fond of mannequins, that said, it's much more difficult to get a nice picture with a life model, outside.. Particularly with the Dutch weather and a full-time job, but hey! good things are not usually easy.

Cheers,

Re: Photographing Headbands

The pics on mannequins drive me crazy! I try to use live models as much as possible.

Re: Photographing Headbands

As a seller I get the most view from live models for sure! I have had a little success with the headband just laying flat, but not nearly as much. I would say it's about 3 to 1 in views.
As a buyer I really want to see the item on a person, you can't really get a feel for how it will lay on your head until you see it on someone.

p.s. I agree with Robin, mannequins have a creepy quality, and aren't the same as a beautiful, lively and captivating human model.
