Here's my take: it's a (relatively) free market here, right? So you get people pricing all different kinds of ways: some pay themselves $20/hr, some have lower costs of living and so can survive paying themselves $3/hr, some want to grow their business so they price to make a profit, some are doing it as a hobby and don't need to make any $ at all, just pay for supplies, some are collectives/resellers and can spread the labor and materials costs out over lots of employees and items.
Now, there are lots of ways to be successful as a business even with all of these competing pressures. To avoid the low-priced large-collective product prices, you can target people who want something truly unique or made with high quality materials (and who can/will pay more to get it).
To avoid the reseller product prices you can offer something personalized.
To avoid the hobbyist prices you can make something that no one actually enjoys making, or that no one else knows how to make (or use materials no hobbyist knows how to source).
