Many types of items or more streamlined?

I have just returned from having my shop closed for quite some time. I am selling clutches and will soon be listing tote bags. I used to sell baby items ie. burp cloths, quilts and onesies. I am wondering do you think that buyers will respond better if I streamline my store and just sell bags? Or should I include the baby items as well?

Thanks for your input, I keep going back and forth with this!

Re: Many types of items or more streamlined?

Your clutches are super cute!

As for what to do, there are so many questions to answer before making a decision like this. No wonder you are going back and forth.

It's best to have a theme that runs throughout your shop in order to brand your business. In order to do that, you have to figure out what you want Lill's Loft to be. Here are some questions to think about:

What kinds of items are you happiest making? What brings you joy?
What do you have most success selling?
Who are the customers you wish to attract?

So, for instance, if you decided that you LOVE babies and that you sell baby items fairly well, you could focus on parents and grandparents as your customers.

Then the theme of your shop would be things for babies, things for moms and dads and gift sets to sell to grandparents. If this is the case, what is it about your clutches and tote bags that would be beneficial to moms? Make sure to list those benefits in the description. Use a picture of a mom with your items or fill the tote bag with items moms would use. Use keywords everywhere that appeal to moms.

Do you see how this works? First figure out what your main theme is - whatever you decide you want Lill's Loft to be. Then gear everything in your shop toward that theme, the banner, your keywords, your descriptions, your photos.

I do have a suggestion for your titles so that your items will appear better in search. Put your main keywords in the first 3 words of the title since that's what Etsy uses for search.

So instead of

" Handmade Blake Riley Grey and White Chevron Clutch, Chevron IPad Case, IPad Pouch",

use

"Handmade Chevron Clutch..." and fill in your other keywords later . Use the search bar at the top of the page to type in "clutch" and see what keywords drop down. Those are what people on Etsy are using to search.

Re: Many types of items or more streamlined?

I am really new to etsy so I don't know how good my advice is. I know for me I love to sew, quilt and knit. At first I opened my shop StoneyCreekKnitters; which is obviously geared towards knitting. I did have some of my quilts in my shop but then decided that I really wanted to brand with my knitting; so it's now just knitting. I now opened this shop and have aprons, burp cloths, nursing covers, crayon rolls, etc. I just found that I had two totally different target markets and it was hard to do that with one shop. I haven't made any sales yet with this shop so I can't say if it was a good move or not but it is easier having the two shops seperate.

Not sure if that was any help or not!

I have both canvas art & jewelry (beaded earrings & polymer clay ) and altho I've been inclined to seperate them into 2 shops in the past-

After my booming sales in November/December, I will definitely NOT be seperating them at this point. If I were to have a hundred of each then perhaps I would just to alleviate the big numbers.

Just my opinion, but I would have them both and keep them both in the same shop. I get bored making the same thing.
