Marketing your business on social media can be intimidating. Maybe you’re not sure how often to post or what kind of content is appropriate to share. But a strong presence on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram is a great way to connect with your target market as well as build relationships with trendsetters and potential collaborators. Join us on September 14 at 11:30 a.m. US ET in the Online Labs ( http://etsy.me/labs914), where we’ll discuss how to create a compelling social media presence. We’ll talk about choosing the right platforms, engaging your audience, and staying true to your values.

I guess I'm convinced that social media will help me with my stuff that much, because of what my product is. I think it's a hard sell because it's not inexpensive art - it is large, expensive stuff. That said, I'm not sure how to effectively use social media, either. So I have a lot to learn. Very interested and will mark my calendar.

Has anyone used the Facebook Promotional Ads? Would you mark it off as a success? I would like to use FB to engage more with my target audience but am gunshy about jumping in and spending the money.

I am really looking forward to this discussion! My favorite platform to use is Instagram, but like a lot of the other commenters, I struggle with how often to post and what content to use. I get lost between keeping it business and wanting to add personal posts so my followers get to know me. Can't wait to hear everyone's suggestions and tips!

Do we need Instagram, Facebook Twitter and Pinterest ? Should there be different content on each? Which has shown to bring in more sales? If we focus on 2 or 3 out of the 4, which are the most beneficial for vintage sellers? Thanks for this, can't wait to watch.

Initially my shop on Etsy was for custom portraits only, but now I want to start selling some stickers and prints as well. I use Instagram to let people know I don't only paint portraits but work on other cool stuff. This results in posting pics that are too diverse, I'm not sure it's actually a good idea.

So my question is: if your shop is already well-know for something, is it a good idea to use Instagram for marketing something else you plan to work on?

Hello, I'm very happy your offering this coarse. I have set up my facebook page for my etsy store. Just not sure what to do now to promote sells. Also I have a personal twitter and linked in account. I do very little with them, only due to lack of understanding. I see from the post instagram. I just started making digital art, so I'm thinking I would like to explore that ave as well. So far I've learned most things by trial and error, trying to muttle through everything on my own. Great timing! I JUST started a regal on my Facebook yesterday. I abandoned it in 2013 because the spammers were getting so crazy. Although, I just dumped over 100 photos over there at once which might have scared people away.... Ug. I'm just way better at Instagram.

Yes! This is something I feel as if I struggle with, so I'll take all the help that I can get :)

My question : Are there better times or better ways to create a post? Such as hashtags vs. no hashtags, or long caption vs. short caption, simple snapshot style photos vs. detailed, more professional looking photos.

I can't make the live event, but will view the archived event. One of the things I would like covered is "what to post" I never know exactly what to post about or find pictures or content related to my shop but not specifically trying to promote my shop. I think I have a start on Pinterest, but twitter and facebook are harder.

Will definitely try and catch this! I love Twitter, and am new to Instagram which I'm finding very good. The one thing that bugs me though is Facebook - sometimes my updates disappear into the ether, and sometimes they'll get a huge reach. I can't work out why - if anyone knows the secret to keeping visible on Facebook, I'd love to know it!

I need this so much. What to post, how to get followers without feeling pushy, am i all over the place, should i concentrate on just one venue or link everything to be able to post one time? Sometimes i really hate facebook i wish i had not created a personal account for my business page. Should i make a switch? Help!
