How do you get followers on your twitter?

I have a twitter account for my shop and it is supposedly supposed to do you a world of good. But I have nearly 30 posts and only 2 views from twitter. I only have 12 followers, how do you increase your followers?

Well, you can follow a load of people and hope they follow back - though these followers are superficial, they probably aren't even looking at your posts. Follow people that actually interest you, if they follow back yay - if they don't nothing lost you're following someone interesting.

The way to get real followers who are interested in you and your shop, is to tweet relevant and interesting things. Talk to people as well. If people you follow ask a question, or post a photo, reply to them or comment. This way people will come to notice you and pay more attention when you post.

Or share your Twitter name in teams were you are a member and it's allowed - that should help as well.
Otherwise find people you are interested in and a lot of them will follow you back, if you follow them ...

It can definitely be a challenge as it seems like everyone who's on Twitter is only there to sell something. I really value the followers I have who are actually there to share and converse.

Twitter can be a helpful tool but it takes a lot of time and work to build up your followers. You can't just promote yourself, nobody wants to follow someone when all they do is talk about themselves. You have to have useful information, share websites, be interactive so that people will want to follow you. AND you have to follow other people too.

Twitter is very fast especially if you are following a lot of people who tweet a lot. Are you using Hootsuite or Tweetdeck to manage your feeds?
It is also very time consuming can be a real time warp if you don't watch out.
You also have to promote others so they in turn will promote you. I just started to follow you so you in turn should follow me. Also you have to tweet at least once a day or you might as well forget it...

Ditto to what Natalie said - you have to be using it for other things than listing your items for it to be useful. You could also search for twitter chats that have to do with what you sell.

Try not to spam your followers. If all you do is tweet links to your listings and nothing else, you'll lose followers.

You know, guys, nowadays big amount of stores sell Twitter followers, but not a lot of them sell real ones that can help your business, fake followers will never become your customers. I had some expirience with several stores and than most of my accounts (I sell watches) had been banned((( So, be aware of scammers!! I can reccomend only 2 stores where I bought services and my pages were not banned as a result, they are TW Buzz and bulkfans.

What I do is that I tweet a lot and follow many twitter users. My followers fluctuate all the time but I'm happy to have 300+.

What Marie said is invaluable. It is very important to make sure the *right* people are following you or it's pretty much pointless. You get followers by making relevant posts that people are interested in. I like posts that are witty, personable, and relevant to my interests. My sellers twitter account, seldom gets any interaction vs. my personal account where people that follow me actually care. If you pay attention to other people, they will pay attention to you.

I have my facebook shop page and my pinterest boards linked to twitter so that anything I post to either will be tweeted. I share stuff from other shops, other sites, I'd say 90% of what I FB or tweet or pin about isn't related to me but to interesting links I've found, interesting shops, or I retweet things that look interesting to me that maybe others want to know about. I know people who retweet EVERYTHING their followers tweet and I think that's lame, personally. I don't want to flood people with stuff.
What other people say here is all true--don't make it all about you, tweet about things that are interesting, even mundane sayings and quotes, funny things. One thing someone told me was to avoid politics and religion or bad language--those are turnoffs. I've had people follow me who are politically or religiously inclined and I don't follow them. I'm not interested.
