How do you get customers to leave feedback?

I've been getting lots of orders lately, but only one person left feedback. Should I include a note with the package? Or put it in the thank you message? How do you guys get customers to leave feedback? Thank you!

I wouldn't put a message asking for it.
I just let it happen...
If a buyer wants to leave it...groovy.
If not...no news is good news IMO.

I have only asked one customer, and it was a customer who took the time to send me a convo telling me how happy she was with her order. I let her know if she wanted to she could (no pressure) however she chose not to. And I was okay with that because she was happy with the product.

Otherwise I never ask. People see it as pushy.

@Rachel Most of my feedback is from other sellers. Only around 10 customers have left me feedback.

I wouldn't bother asking. Many of my buyers don't even appear to have Etsy accounts, so they may not even come back to the site. No news is good news.

I always request that the customer let me know when they've received their package and that almost always turns into feedback for my shop!

I wouldn't worry about it, especially if the feedback you have is positive. I have tried to remind customers to let me know when they receive the package and sometimes I will get a convo but no feedback. I have about 1/3 feedback, and consider that pretty good. Many years ago I had a bridal business as a consultant and seamstress. I worked closely with my customers and their family and friends for many months. While working with some of the brides (we live in a college town) who were away from home, I was treated like an aunt and even invited to some of the weddings. Yet, after the wedding was over only a handful of times did I ever hear from the bride or her party again. Once if was over, they went on to new things.

Even though you might have several convos with a customer regarding an order, when they receive their items in good condition and being what they expected most people put the business part of the transaction and seller out of their minds. They have other things to deal with that become more important. Also, a large percentage of Etsy sellers are new to Etsy and don't understand about feedback.

On the other hand, when I send a convo to my international customers I do ask them to let me know when the package arrives so I will know they received it. Even then, half of the customers who respond do so with a convo and not feedback.

Let it come as it may. Positive feedback is great and very much desired but I have to admit the personal convo's I've gotten from satisfied customers have meant so much more.

I would never message a customer asking for feedback. I've made 77 sales and only 24 customers left feedback for their purchase. I always hope that a customer will come back to tell me how much they liked their item but it's okay when they don't. Like everyone else said, no news is good news.

What I meant was in the message that they automatically get when they purchase something. I wasn't going to message each person individually after purchase.
