How do some get multiple orders daily and others dont?

I feel that my shop is pretty good in its presentation, seo, titles etc. I want to do this full time but i dont get sales everday or even most weeks! I came upon a shop that has 6 sales already today.

To those high sales shops: Do you guys have other shops? Do you promote your shops in other ways? Have you made a name for yourself?

I'm currently working on reaching that far but it's too hard. I get what you're saying and I completely understand your feeling. All I can say is that you need to promote your items as much as you can and open accounts in different social media websites. Recently, I noticed that to get sales you have to have a minimum of 4,000 viewers to receive good sales.

I think a lot of it has to do with what each shop sells. From what I've seen crafts and personal products (bath bombs, etc) seem to sell much better than art. Art is very personal and we have to wait for the person to come along that is looking for what we offer. Just my opinion.

Today just might be their lucky day. And did they have a ton of items in their shop? The more you offer, the more you'll get found. My goal is to get 75 items in my shop by April 30. That'll increase my traffic!
Try blogging, using twitter or Instagram, or try to get featured in a blog. There are so many ways to get your name out there! Don't worry, you'll get there :)

I agree, it has a lot to do with what you sell. I've sold as many as 6 items in a day but that is during the busy holiday shopping months of Nov-Dec. It certainly doesn't happen on a regular basis for me & I'm kinda glad for that since most of my items are custom.

I call it the shampoo effect (although I'm not sure it ever makes any sense when I do). Stay with me here. You lather and rinse once -- a little bit of bubbles. You lather and rinse again -- bubbles galore! So sales beget more sales, like bubbles beget more bubbles. Buyers start buying more from shops with more sales, because they seem established, and in their minds, other customers wouldn't be buying from them if they weren't reputable. So it goes back to something that's been said before -- it takes time and patience and a lot of hard work to build up your business.

And Kristan: gorgeous shop! You are doing quite well, already! I know the shampoo effect will happen to you, too. :)

Agree with Heather Roper. (Also the amount of work you put in, is what you get out. I have been told, so I changed things up, and started to put some serious hours in. Today is my full time job, but took me a few years)

i am torn between wanting more sales and then not having the time to create them. Am actually scared of what will happen in Nov and december if I do get 6 a day. The thing is that I have another job and I am not going to leave the paid job unless I start selling heavily, but until, and if, I get there, I have to create the items I sell in my free time.

I have plenty of time to deal with a ridiculous amount of sales. Give them to me! I want to see how many I can handle! ;)

Kristan, I wish I knew the answer to your question, but I'm in the same boat. I just keep adding listings (new photographs and new products) and try not to fret too much. I still fret a lot - some days this whole Etsy thing is really hard on on my mental health. But your shop is lovely, so hang in there and good luck!

it took me years selling at shows to figure out what would sell.
good training ground, as you get immediate feedback on what would work.

having a different product in an uncrowded category also helps. A lot.

if there are millions of things for sale similar to yours, you have to do everything right.

I didnt have to.

figuring out how to sell here was icing on the cake. Much easier than coming up with a successful product.

Kristan, I am having the same problem. My shop has only been open two weeks, but I haven't sold anything and it's incredibly frustrating and disheartening. I just keep working on my art and adding to the shop. Don't know what else to do at this point. But I agree that art is more difficult to sell. It's usually a higher price point, and as Heather said, it's personal. I considered making art that I thought would sell, as opposed to making art that I love and trying to sell it. Changed my mind about that pretty quick, as it's not the way I want my career to go.

Adyan, I love the shampoo effect idea. But it's not as simple. It takes a lot of washing and washing to start getting more bubbles. And even when that happens, you can't just stop and bask in the glory. Retail is a business where you have to keep constantly improving, adding and inovating to keep getting the sales. Last season's sales will not guarantee sales in the current season.

time and again i get multiple orders on one day because very often people buy my bracelets in bulk. just 2 weekends ago i sold 6 bracelets to 2 customers in 2 days but since then there has been nothing
honestly i could not sell multiple items every day because it takes time to make the bracelets and if i did my shop would be empty pretty soon.

I agree that it really depends on what you're selling. I would think that the art category would be more difficult, it's not quite as universal as shall we say....makeup! :)

I think if you have more sales you go up in etsy search. Maybe try some of the trade teams, like trade-a-holics, to boost your 'sales.' Also, I have bought a few of the etsy search ads and they have really paid off, although obviously that only works if you aren't head to head with other etsy search ads for the same or similar item.

Not to forget, the more you sell, the more you re-list and get noticed.

If art is your thing, maybe think about making your art into gifts, pendants etc, have a look at other successful art shops and what they are selling. The ones I know have gathered a following via facebook and blogs.

I do plenty of research to see what's out there in my genre and which gaps I can fill.

Also, being active in the teams and faving items and team treasuries helps.
Pinterest is really good too as is writing a blog, they lead people into your shop via links.

How do people get many sales each day?

Simple. They work their butts off!
The shops that get many sales each day are listing new items each and every day and keep each section in their shop full.

They work on their titles and tags so that their items will come up in a search both on Etsy and in outside searches when someone is looking for what they sell
Many have a newsletter, blog, Facebook, Twitter or other form of marketing that they do regularly as well and use each to reach that target audience.

Quite a few of the really busy shops have been in business for a few years before they opened their Etsy shop.

My Etsy business isn't too bad for being here for 5 years, but Etsy is only a small part of my business plan.

It's amazing when you do a comparison search (for research purposes) and find buyers that consistently get 6 or 7 sales a day.. Multiplying it out they must be turning over 80+ a year! Turned my husbands head when I showed him, he started taking etsy seriously then!
