How did you make your first sale?

Hi there,

Making my first sale to a complete stranger was such an indescribable feeling. Up until then, all of my customers had been friends or family members. As soon as I saw the order, I immediately texted my best friend and then rushed to ship the item out.

How did you make your first sale to a stranger? I’m working on a potential article for the Seller Handbook, and I want to hear from you. Was there a turning point in your shop that led to it? Maybe you had an epiphany about how to shoot better product photos or perhaps you revamped your titles and tags. Or maybe you changed course and started selling a new product. Whatever the change, big or small, tell us about what led to your first sale.

Hello, My first sale was made by my best friend, but when I saw the order I was so excited I could hardly sleep whole night :)) After that I have only 3 sales and each of them are like it's a first time :)) )))))

I just open this shop in July 2017 so my first sale was recent.
My daughter and I were very excited...we sold a doll dress to a very nice lady.
She also gave us our first review on Etsy.
We felt great.

My first sale to a non friend/family member was to someone in Texas, and I was ECSTATIC! It was about six months after I opened my shop. She bought one of my abstract paintings.

Hello, glad to hear about your very interesting project, I wish you the best.
I did my first sale in August of 2015 in the same month that I opened my Etsy Shop.
I remember my emotion and happiness.
The item was a very old black and white photography, of a Gypsy family looking very interesting and rare.
The photo did a long trip, from Uruguay to USA.
I havent words to said thanks to the buyer and I will never forget it.

First sale took a while, but it feels like once it came in they never stopped! Nothing special about my story, just kept posting new items and finally got a bite! Persistence is key

My very first sales were earlier this fall to people who are friends with me on Facebook. I finally today woke up to a notification of my very first Etsy order from someone I don't know and I'm very excited! It was a great way to start the day and feels good to know that my listings are being seen -- it's a lot of work to try to make that happen so I'm glad it finally paid off! :)

I have been working on items for my new shop and just decided to open it this past week. I logged on to work tonight and not expecting anything - just hoping someone at least looked. BUT I made my first sale!!!!!!!! I am just a bit excited and this made me start working on even more items and ideas, Yay!!

My first sale got me hooked!! I started weaving on a family vacation (since we had a long car ride and I had nothing else to do.) Once we got to our destination I realized my first little number wasnt half bad and decided to open an Etsy shop for the heck of it - I just wanted to see if I could really sell something on hear like I have heard SO many do! My first sale was to a completely unknown customer! I was working on adding listings when I got an email saying I had my first sale. A lovely lady in NSW had purchased 2 of my vintage necklaces. It got me absolutely hooked on Etsy and made me rush to get them shipped out!

I now have 10 sales a month on and am working on building up!

My first sale was to a complete stranger after selling on Etsy a few weeks. I was soooo excited I ran right out and shipped it. I only wish she would of reviewed it. That is the hardest part. Just sold 2 items locally and I have very happy customers. Now I am patiently waiting for second Esty sale and someone to give me a good review:) I just sold the deer lamp below to my local customer . Check out my shop
