Shelley, you've had 5 sales since opening just under 3 weeks ago. It may seem discouraging to you but that's actually very good for a new shop. A lot of new sellers wait months to get their first sale.
Views for me are lower than I would have expected for this time of year. I can understand how discouraging the ups and downs can be. I enjoy what I am doing so I will keep trying for a little longer. Best wishes to all for more sales!
I joined a very active promotion team, and started participating more in another. I am generally not fond of promotion teams but these do things differently as in organized blitzes, treasury projects (large ones with 49 shops), etc. My views and faves have exploded and in the past 7 days I've had 10 sales. I've also been improving my tags and keywords though listings and titles need to be worked on (tags improved via BETSI).
People need to do what they're comfortable with but right now I can't imagine my life without my shop and the work I do

Strangely, I did start out with the photo of my son holding the hockey print, but then I changed it because I think the artwork looks so small and I thought the close-up might be better for treasuries. I find myself thinking about how an image will work in a treasury a lot. I think I just want to be included and found right now, but maybe I will change it back. But if someone has used your item in a treasury and then you change the main picture, will it change in their treasury as well? Will this mess up their treasury?

Shelley, I also think of treasuries when deciding on my main photo. if you find your item isn't getting views you can always switch the photo again. I'm constantly tweaking my shop.
And yes, if you change the photo it will change in treasuries as well. Whether it messes up the look of the treasury or not, that's up to the curator to decide. It's still better than having a treasury item expire or deactivated, which changes the whole flow and creates an empty spot on the bottom.
My views are way down, under 50 a day, but my sales are up and so is my revenue. I have had sales on days with under 30 views so they must be quality views. I have not promoted at all or renewed much since I decided a few months ago to close up my shop after the first week of December.
I agree with Sam that it is an awful lot of work for a very small payoff. I do love that rush when someone buys my handmade Jewelry, but most of my sales and profits are from Vintage.
I have decided I to just relax and enjoy the Holidays this year, and the Carribean Cruise I paid for with this years Shop Earrings : )
I will decide in the New Year if it is worth coming back to Etsy or not.

My sales are very much like yours mostly to the US which is great, and I am enormously greatful for them, but it would be lovely for more UK buyers to buy from me. You are so right about Peeps from the UK having no idea what Etsy is! everyone apart from people in the craft market already have said "what's that then?" lol
Its really quite sad to see how many of us are feeling discouraged at the moment :o( I really hope that it picks up for everyone as I get the feeling people may be weighing up their options after Chrimas season is over.
Good for you Linda! go and enjoy yourself, you sounds like you've worked hard and deserve the reward :o) Like yourself Linda I'll be deciding after the season whether or not it's time to cuts my losses (and they will be a lot! :o( )and concentrate on my family instead.

My views are not good but my sales are. Well, good for me. I have 193 views and 4 sales. I'm finding that I'm getting more search views. I played with my tags and will continue to work with them.
I can tell the pick up for the holidays. I am getting a number of orders for gifts.
