Help with Wanelo

I just opened up an account on Wanelo to post my Etsy items, but I am confused and have a few questions.

1) How do you start a store? Do people have to save some of your items before you can do this?

2) How do my items get seen? I put some hash tags in a couple of listings and then did a search, but they don't show up. Is that because searches only apply to stores?

3) If my items won't show up in a search would they show up under a category like accessories?

4) What is the best way to use hash tags? Do you use them like tags on Etsy?

5) Do your items show up in the feed of people following you?

Sorry for all the questions, but Wanelo isn't making sense to me. I looked at a Wanelo team on Etsy, but it wasn't very helpful.

Re: Help with Wanelo

Wanelo makes zero sense to me and I didn't enjoy it. I ended up deleting my account. Only so much time in a day to waste on SM I don't at least kind of understand and enjoy.

I do remember to claim my store I had to take a screenshot of a order receipt page (I blurred out the buyer's personal info) and submit that.

Re: Help with Wanelo

i never had to claim my store, but i cannot remember how i set it up either, it´s there but you can make categories and post to these, a little like on pinterest. when other people save the item you have posted it becomes more popular and you will appear higher in searches
ad 5) yes exactely!!
wanelo is definitely not my favourite way of promotion but i log in every two weeks and post my new items and i do get some traffic every now and then. it´s like every other form of social media, it works better for some than others....

Re: Help with Wanelo

That's where I'm at right now Julie.

I have made categories, but I don't know how to make my page an actual store. The site isn't that user friendly.

Re: Help with Wanelo

I just set up a Wanelo account the other day myself. I finally figured it out but don't know how to get people to follow me? I think it's a younger crowd that uses it. It's very popular among teenagers, that's how I find out about it, from my 14 year old neice!

Re: Help with Wanelo

Thanks for the link Julie. It is helpful for some other things, but still doesn't say how to create a store. I don't have the link to click on for claiming my store. I think it has to be a store first and then you claim it so wanelo can verify it.

Jodi, did you get yours set up as a store? If so, how did you do it?

Re: Help with Wanelo

I agree with the other comments, I have had my wanelo acct now for a little while but don't do a lot with it b/c I would post my items in a category thinking it would be with my items only then other items started showing up from where i faved other people's stuff. Still not quite sure, however I did post something thiis morning. So I use it occasionally. However, as ironic as it may be I have followers on wanelo don't ask me how they found me or how they follow me, but it says I do and I get emails when someone starts to follow etc, hmm LOL

Re: Help with Wanelo

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who had trouble with it. My daughter uses it, so I thought I'd try (like was mentioned...younger crowd). Very un-user friendly in my opinion. I had to send them an email just to figure out how to claim my store! (They sent me a link). Don't know if it will be worth it for me.

Re: Help with Wanelo

Nancy how did you create your store? I saw the link for how to claim it, but still don't know how to create a store rather than just a personal page.

Re: Help with Wanelo

I just opened Wanelo to check it out and I'm having the same issue. It seems as though you have to post items from your Etsy store and then eventually a store page will be set up that you can go to and claim it... I'm not sure how long it takes for a store page to show up.

Re: Help with Wanelo

Thanks Julie and Miranda. This is why I don't want to waste my time on social media. But I keep reading how important it is to go beyond Etsy, so I thought I would give wanelo a try. I already have FB and pinterest accounts.

I also can't get the browser bookmarklet to save to my bookmarks, I just get an error message. And it has a link to copy to add save buttons to items which I also can't figure out, but my items have save buttons on them, so I don't know if that's the same thing or if I still need to do something so that my items can be saved. That site is seriously not user friendly!

Re: Help with Wanelo

I have a FB, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. I will not be adding anymore SM stuff. I don't think that it is worth it if you don't understand and like the form of SM. Twitter and I don't always get along but I love FB, Pinterest, and Instagram.

Re: Help with Wanelo

I'm new to Wanelo and can't help much. However, there is a Wanelo team here on Etsy that may help you more. Just do a search for wanelo under teams.

Re: Help with Wanelo

I agree with you Julie. I figure I will give it a try long enough to see if I quit hating it, lol. They say the younger crowd shops wanelo and I think a lot of my items would be a good fit, so I figured I would check it out.

I don't get much out of FB, but Pinterest is starting to pick up for me now. It took a while, but it's getting going a little bit. And I enjoy Pinterest. I think I'll check out instagram next.

Thanks Dee. I found a wanelo group, I'll try there and see if they can help me.

Re: Help with Wanelo

Had to get help from the assistance desk. They were very nice and helped us. We have friends and followers. The problem is other people still can't find us. Guess if we get one sale from that store it is better than nothing.
Lots of people on the site don't clean up their store, so when you go to Esty it has sold or expired.

Re: Help with Wanelo

This a great Wanelo team: https://www.etsy.com/teams/11882/wanelo
If you have the time to particate you post an item each day to Wanelo then you post it on the team's daily thread. Everyone who posts on that thread fav's your item, your post on Wanelo, You in turn fav everyone's post on the thread and on Wanelo. Pinterest, too, if you want.

Re: Help with Wanelo

I personally love Wanelo. I do agree with some of the comments above about it being more for teens. Etsy shop are very hard to get seen because Wanelo is populated by all the big brand stores. (Forever21, holister, ect.)
I do enjoy it because I love shopping on there. I get the occasional "X has saved your item!" But I haven't gotten much promotion from Wanelo.

It's work a try though! :)
Good luck.

Eye-opening! I started the process, but, based on these assessments, am not about to follow through with Wanelo.

Re: Help with Wanelo

Wanelo has a young audience gnerally. So think if it is worth your effort.

I participated in a Wanelo team to get started (and still do when I have time). You need to build up as many followers as possible. I hadn't posted anything in awhile, but I posted a couple recently that I have had difficulty getting views from Etsy, and I am getting several views a day from Wanelo on these now and have gotten a couple sales of those pieces as well.
