Help with Sponser Request?

I have a lady wanting to "sponsor" me. She wants a keychain I have in my shop, and me to make her a long cowl scarf, in exchange for a review on her FB and/or Instagram.

I am on neither Insta or FB - but these are the number she gave me. They don't seem very high to me?

Instagram @haleytanner 406 followers
Old Facebook 900-950
Current private Facebook 250-300

Is this something you would go ahead with, or does it sound like she is after free products? (she wants me to make a custom cowl for her?)

Re: Help with Sponser Request?

Same exact lady just contacted a lady on my state team. Also for a key chain type item. She's just after free stuff.

Just looked her up. She's a 16yr old.

Re: Help with Sponser Request?

Good to know - I wonder if she's doing this allover the place. Someone on FB/Insta should check her out - I'd be interested but don't have access.

Anyone else have thought?

Re: Help with Sponser Request?

Sponsor is a generous term -- I always thought sponsorship was a longer term commitment. If it were me, I'd have a hard time paying ~$60 in items for a review to this limited audience.

Hey Margie, You've worded my thoughts. It not a popular blog, large fb audience. I got suspicious when she asked for a *custom* item!

Yep. I see you have a promotion going in your shop announcement -- you could kindly point her to that and say you're not interested in her offer at this time. Done and done. :)

Re: Help with Sponser Request?

Also, if you look through her Instagram pictures, I see no reviews and a few cowls/scarves that she supposedly made and is selling to help some person/fund. Maybe she did make them but considering that is an item she asked you to make for her....I'm not convinced.

Sad that she is starting in on this type of thing so young.

Re: Help with Sponser Request?

Julie, if I'm not on Insta, can I still see her profile? I'm going to follow Margies advice as I reply to her.

I'm so glad I asked this question!

Re: Help with Sponser Request?

Thanks Julie. The link won't open for me, nor when I type her in on google.

I've did my best to politely decline.

Re: Help with Sponser Request?

I was contacted by a blogger who asked me to ship a pricey vintage item to Australia at my expense. She offered a favorable review on her blog. The total transaction would have cost me about $300. When I very politely declined, she made a comment about understanding that small businesses don't have very big marketing budgets! No, I just don't want to spend $300 for a questionable return on my money!!
I think that the right way to evaluate these types of "offers" is what will it cost you and how would it benefit you.

Yeah, its one thing to send something small to someone who has a legit base of followers (more than what a 16 yr old has). But I usually would stay away from them! Some people are just out for the free stuff. . .
