I really need to attend this seminar. I have been so wrong on how to work with my key words. For some reason I thought that using generic words will make my items show more often. I have been wrong all this time. :( I need this seminar badly.

My QUESTION SUBMISSION:

I'd love to know more about how the search works in regard to keywords, titles and tags.

Does the etsy search preference:
- Title (so should we include our main keywords here?)
- Tags (or is this the best location for our main keywords)
- Or the description

For example, the best keywords for an item are "big blue print" but I'd also like to include "a5 framed print" - but both won't fit.

- So where is the prime real estate location for the search?
- Which place (title, tag, description) should I be choosing to place the keywords I favour, and placing the keywords that come secondary?

Or should we be duplicating the same keywords across both the title and the tags?

Also, does punctuation and spelling (variations) matter? Or does the search 'convert' and read them the same way?
ie mother's day vs mothers day and colour vs color

My Questions:

1.is If use the term necklace once, dose it matter if I repeat it over and over in deferment variations, or is it a waste of key words. For example if I use short necklace, blue necklace, gold necklace etc, is it considered too repetitive?

2. I am always in a conflict do I want to rank high in a short list of or strive for the more crowded lists, they are much harder to rank higher. For example 'Handmade jewelry' would be much more crowded than a more specific category.

3. Does originality of key words helps you rank higher. If you use a different, or an unusual word in your title, does it help in ranking higher?

4.Does 'Copy & past' the exact title into the body on the description is reducing or contributing to your ranking? Also does it heart your Google ranking? I heard that if you copy & past to your description it may hurt you.

What is the hierarchy for key words? What is the recommended format?

Based on the hierarchy, is it possible to develop a formula? for example:
what is the item + who it's for + use or color or size + etc

I seem to create a different set of keywords every time I list an item. I think if I had a better idea of tools available and how to use them I could create better keywords. Someone mentioned Google Keywords Planner? What is this? Is it useful What other tools and strategies are out there?

Here would be my number one question about keywords:

Is it better to string a bunch of keywords together (in an intelligent sounding phrase) or should they be a series of phrases separated by something (comma, slash)?

This is an area that I've struggled with from the beginning and I seem to get further away from "the words" rather than closer. I hate to think that I'm too "artistic" to learn this vital info. In the years I've been wtih Etsy and the $ I spend each month to be seen I've only had 8 sales and if this doesn't work I may have to pull the plug...and I hate to do this. I LOVE what I do but I need everyone else to LOVE my work and to FIND me.
