Doing event swag

Have you ever provided items for an event swag bag? Was it a good experience? Did it generate sales? What did you learn from it? Are there some events that should be avoided?

Thanks for taking the time to share your words of wisdom.

Roanne

I'm replying here to bump this up. I would love to hear what others have to say on this. :)

Re: Doing event swag

I've done small event swag bags and it has not generated any sales but it's great for exposure. I only do events that are for a great cause for the community. Last week I donated 50 samples for a local non profit who hosted a fashion show.

I wouldn't donate for just any event.

Re: Doing event swag

I have not, but I've read threads about the topic before and the responses are almost unanimously AGAINST participating in something like that. It might depend on the event, but if celebrities are involved, they rarely even see the bags anyway... they give them to their assistants or other members of their entourage.

Like I said, I haven't tried it myself, but I've seen a lot of comments saying that it didn't do any good. Best of luck!

Interesting. I hadn't even thought of seeking that type of thing out. Maybe something to look into.

Re: Doing event swag

I am participating in the celebrity swag bag for the 2012 CMA's. I am working with a group that charges a very reasonable per item included in the swag bags. I am including 1 item.

I do not think Taylor Swift is going to get my necklace and wear it all over town, but if that happens... I would be thrilled!

I took advantage of this opportunity for the press. I plan to send out several press releases and I hope that some of the local publications will feature the story.

I had a bracelet worn to the Oscar Awards and I have gifted Kaley Cuoco from the "Big Bang Theory". I received some local press about both of those events.

I wouldn't say my sales went through the roof, but people would come into my b+m shop and ask me about the events. It got people talking and that's good! I also like to add those events to my bio and profile page. People are impressed with that sort of thing.
