Where else do you sell?

I'm exclusively on Etsy, and it's taken me 4+ months to learn how to stay sane balancing my shop, and my life. I am ready to take on more responsibility aka expand.
There are so many sites similar to Etsy, but the reviews are mixed.

What works for you? As for the whole "don't put your eggs all in one basket"...besides craft shows, where else do you sell for income?

Thanks in advance for your input
:) :) :)

Re: Where else do you sell?

I was selling a lot to colleagues at my day job after hours - I worked in a school so I had a lot of colleagues. But I recently left work so now I'm exclusively on Etsy and hoping to start selling soon.

After the holidays I plan to take a selection of my items to local boutiques and try to convince some of the owners to buy items (wholesale) to sell in their shops. If that doesn't work, I'm going to have to start doing craft shows.

Re: Where else do you sell?

I am currently exclusive to etsy. The main reason is because it is much cheaper for me as a seller to sell on etsy, because the fees are in dollars. 20 cents to me is 13p.

I tried ebay - that is a joke. Do not bother.

I looked into amazon - you have to pay a monthly subscription fee.

I looked into Not On The High Street - you have to fill in an application form and pay a fee of - I don't remember the exact figure - but it was a three figure number.

The british version of etsy is called folksy - but like I said - it is much cheaper for me to sell on etsy. So this is where I shall stay. For now. LOL

Re: Where else do you sell?

luulla is so cute! I hear it's the best Etsy off-brand.

I did ArtFire before they switched payment models and kind of hated it lol. I've had a SupaDupa, a Big Cartel, and a ShopEnvy. I don't have time for any of them.

So, I just sell here and on my own website/blog. I am in a few boutiques too. .

Re: Where else do you sell?

Katie, seriously, get out and sell elsewhere. Your stuff (imho, fwiw etc) is really good and original so a stall at a craft fair or similar would be worth your while. If you're south of the river there's an undersubscribed 'Artisan Market' in Canterbury that I could give you details of but I'm sure there's stuff nearer to home that you could take advantage of.

Re: Where else do you sell?

Etsy is a (fascinating) secondary market for me. But most of my business comes through galleries and my own established client base. I would most definitely spread yourself out a tad so you have better control of your market. Check into consigning work to some local boutiques, gift shops, etc. They are often eager to try something new, and you dont have to do the leg work :-)

Re: Where else do you sell?

We've had good experience with festivals. (As of right now, sales on etsy = $0.) We also do a local farmer's market. The best has been with festivals, though. The networking alone is worth it. We were able to connect with local shops and they got to see how well we were doing in sales. Now we are talking to local specialty shops to carry our items. Win. Win!

Re: Where else do you sell?

Right now I'm just on Etsy. I am having a baby in the beginning of December though and already have an 18 month old running around, so I don't plan on selling elsewhere until maybe Spring. But, I plan to expand my line of products available too in the Spring, and once that's set up, I am probably going to try and do some more local sales, maybe set up like a home party plan. Maybe an open house party, etc. I started selling my products just to friends and family and did very well before I joined Etsy with this shop. :)

I sell in other venues as well and it's going ok. Looking to branch into my own domain soon.

Re: Where else do you sell?

Etsy is the only place I sell online. I did a farmer's market this summer and am scheduled for a few craft fairs coming up.

Re: Where else do you sell?

Luulla is almost identical to etsy. I was just looking into it, you can sell the exact items (supplies, vintage, handmade) it costs 0.10 to list an item or for 9.90 you can list unlimited per a month. Identical policies.

Currently, I am only on etsy. I do a few fairs a year (two). I work full time so that being said I have not branched out. But, Luulla looks like a very similar market and might be an easy place to expand too.

Anyone like or dislike Artfire?? Ive looked into it and would love to hear opns.

Re: Where else do you sell?

I sell at a natural history museum and art gallery as well as a local boutique just a few blocks from me.

Etsy is currently my only online venue.

Re: Where else do you sell?

Most of my sales come from my main site. I sell to retailers with online stores in Europe as well. I have scaled back on events, but I hope to get back out more this season and next year.

Re: Where else do you sell?

I'm selling now at an art gallery but it's all very recent (as in today! Hehe) Hope that works out! I'm hopeful it'll sell because they were the ones to approach me after finding me here on Etsy... You never know who's looking at your stuff!

Re: Where else do you sell?

Aside from Etsy, I sell at craft shows, the local museum shop, a couple localish arts and craft shops, and some localish boutiques all within 3 hours of my home. I would love to extend my reach in some more b&m shops, but I am pretty set on Etsy being my online place. It's too much hassle to sell at multiple places online!

Re: Where else do you sell?

I tried artfire but didn't care for it...

I sell on artsy dog, a site dedicated to dog themes items.

I sell at a weekly local craft fair and try to get out once a month to various craft fairs. This is my most sales occur plus I pass out lots of cards which direct many to my etsy shop.

I plan on trying luulla.

Good luck
