Do you include a receipt?

Do you include the printout receipt from etsy?

I keep going back and forth, but I think its necessary...I'd like to get one.

I always include a business card, thank you note, a product tag.

If it's a gift I don't....because I don't want to be responsible for telling the recipient how much was paid.

What do you think?

I include the invoice from PayPal, though I wouldn't if someone indicated it was going to be a gift. I figure if they don't want it they'll just throw it away but I like getting a paper receipt myself and I figure it can't hurt.

I never have gotten in the habit of doing that. When I get one with something I've purchased I usually toss it - I can find it in my purchases anyway, so I don't see any real need for it.

Be interested to see if others find getting one useful - maybe I'll rethink it.

I do. It's more professional. I put a business card and a thank you note (on the business card.) and a receipt. But if it's a gift, then I just put a business card. :)

I don't - they get an email with transaction details when they purchase, and they can always look up the receipt in their Etsy Account. Why waste paper?
Also, I'd say that only about 10% of the items I've purchased on Etsy over the years have included receipts when shipped.

I think it's more important to include a hand-written thank you note - I enclose a business card in mine.

Well, I did at first but now to save paper and ink I will only include it for custom and international orders. I like to have a paper back up inside the package for customs. All orders get a business card with a note written on it thanking them.

I haven't included one in my sales so far because I always toss the ones I receive from etsy sellers. I only keep ones from actual stores incase I need to return something for some reason..then toss those after a while too.
I kinda feel it's a waste of paper...??

I like getting one, because I sometimes buy stuff in my company's name and like to get the receipt for book-keeping. So I always include one myself when I sell something. That way the buyer can quickly make sure they got the right item and see a return address, in case they need it.

Also they require that for customs when sending outside of EU.

I don't. Like Gena said, they already got e-receipts from Paypal and Etsy, so why waste paper on printing the same thing. I do include a thank you note and a 10% off coupon though.

We haven't made any sales yet but I tend to agree that unless it is a gift some type of receipt should be included, makes it more professional for the recipient.

I always include the etsy print-out as the receipt and I hand-write a quick "thank you" note on it.

I have also started to include a business card with a 15% off repeat customer discount code on it.

I don't have a lot of sales yet, but I think the more you can do of stuff like this, the more it helps and leaves warm happy feelings with the customer :)

Always. I do alot of online buying (way more than I should) and although I mark on my desk calender the date I purchase something with an expected received date, I forget what I ordered sometimes and from whom. As a buyer, I want to open my package and cross check it against the contents in the package right then and there. I don't want to go hunt any print outs, purchase sections, or emails (the worst) to see what I ordered.

I have occasionally ordered items that came without receipts and found it time consuming to go searching for paperwork, especially when I'm ordering multiple supplies.

Just my opinion, but for me personally, it gives a more professional aspect. I include the item along with a pay pal receipt (unless gift), write a thank you note on the receipt, and include my business card and when I remember...a coupon for the next purchase.

Sometimes I think its a waste of paper. But I like the "professional" feel of giving the receipt. Because after all the costs of printer ink/paper should technically be included in the costs of the product (if you've figured all your costs correctly).

I did at the beginning and then decided not to for two reasons. First, save paper (trees) and most people just throw it away anyway. And second, every transaction and the details are listed in our sold section of our shop and I am sure the customer has an electronic copy too from both Etsy and Paypal as well. Just one more step towards a paperless environment :)

I don't. I always thought of it as a waste of paper, especially since they do receive emails with the invoice info and can look it up in Etsy or PayPal. If they are tech-savvy enough to shop on Etsy, I assume that they are tech-savvy enough to view their purchase info online. But maybe I shouldn't assume that......??

I always have and always will. You should always include the "to and from" information on the inside as well as the outside of your package. If the package gets torn open or mangled during shipment and the post office doesn't know where to deliver it, it'll end up in the dead letter office. You don't want that.

I don't - the only time I would would be for international orders for customs or for a gift. I see it as a waste of paper when they already get two receipts from PayPal and Etsy, which they can always look up. I've been thinking about mentioning that in my handwritten note, especially since everything else I do in packaging and promotion is sustainable.

I haven't been including buz' cards for sometime, invoice, they can chose to print their own from our transaction or PP and just a nice note on recycled book pages ( labels I make myself), Thank you for shopping my etsy, and my first name. Done.

I don't include a receipt, for the simple reason that I don't have a printer.

So if they want it, they can indeed print it themselves (if they Do have a printer, lol)

However when I buy something I'm used to getting one, but I hardly look at it, just throw it away.

I always do... most of my orders are international and by law a receipt is required to go through customs whether it is a gift or not. Customs agents need a value to put on the item...if they get to decide what your item is valued at... its value could be way off causing your customer to have to pay duties and fees. If I know an international order is a gift I still include the reciept but enclose it in an envelope. If a package is opened the receipt also allows the package a better chance at making it back to its destination or back to me. I also include the receipt with domestic orders as a kind of check list... I also write a thank you note on it : )
