Christmas! When to list items?

Hi there,

Was just wondering if there is a right time to start listing Christmas items and do most people have a seperate Christmas category?

What is Christmas in July?

You will get mixed answers on this. Many say you should stock Christmas all year round because people shop all year round.
I started stocking on July 1st. Mostly because this is 'down time' and I'd rather stock up now while I have a chance, than deal with the stress of Christmas on top of creating new items.
Christmas in July is a retail marketing strategy of generally having sales supporting early Christmas shopping during the summer. I 'celebrate' by just stocking Christmas items, but some people host sales, or advertise Christmas gifts! I believe the 'official' CIJ started on the 11th of July, but I could be mistaken. There is a team on Etsy to help with CIJ sales!

Hi Helen,
Ariana is correct the "official" Christmas in July is July 11th-21st!

I started listing holiday items early because I was just in the mood to make holiday items one day. It's nice because I do get the occasional view because of a particular holiday listing, I also have a dedicated Holiday section, but not everything in that section is Christmas it also has a few Halloween items as well.

This time of year is really slow, so I'm getting ready for Christmas now. This includes listing New things I've made as well as creating lots of things for craft fairs later in the year! While it's quiet, it's nice to get things done now than later

I already started on Christmas items and listing them. July to me is like the start of the holiday shopping. Before you know it, Christmas is knocking on your door.

I keep Christmas items in the shop year round.

Most of my stock is sold out by August.

I started listing some Christmas wreaths last week and have been surprised how many search hits I've gotten.

I've also heard blogs and such plan what they will feature at least three months in advance.

My best friend is a manager for hobby lobby and she told me they have already rolled out the Christmas decor and its been selling. Sounds crazy..but I guess there are always people who like to get a head start on holiday shopping. : )

We leave our Christmas and all holiday items up all year long. We get hearts, views and sales throughout the year.

I just renewed the items today that I plan to make for this year. I also left those that I don't want to make or that did not sell well in the expired section. :)
Next week, I plan to work on a couple new Christmas or holiday themed items.

This has inspired me to get creating.

Most people hate it if you mention Christmas this early in the year but some people like to get there shopping done early, so I've got nothing to lose.

I am starting now - as much as I hate bringing out the Christmas stuff in July :) It is my first year on etsy so I don't really have a success story with it, but I've read other peoples, and it sounds like Christmas gifts/supplies sell all year round.
