Are the first 3 words of an item's title the most important?

I read in another seller's post that the first three words of an items title are the most important for search results.....is this true? Where can I find the best guidelines on how to word things?

For example, below is one of my current titles for a listing......

6 x 6 Mixed Media Original Upcycled Kitty with a Crazy Tail Wall or Desk Art

Should I do something like this instead.......

Upcycled Mixed Media Original Kitty with a Crazy Tail 6 x 6 Wall or Desk Art

If this was your title, how would you word it for maximum results? Please let me know your thoughts!

Re: Are the first 3 words of an item's title the most important?

I wonder the same thing, so I don´t know if I´ll be much help. In my case, my shop´s pretty eclectic, with everything from origami to vintage sweaters. Since I don´t specialize in one particular thing, I try to think of tags or titles that might not draw as many results in a search, so my item doesn´t get buried.

I think I would title your cat something like Cat Wall Hanging or Cat (or Kitty) Art Original… but hopefully some more experienced people can weigh in!

Check out http://MarketMyShop.blogspot.com he has excellent advice on titles, tags, and descriptions. And yes, the first three words do carry more weight. :)

Re: Are the first 3 words of an item's title the most important?

It is, the first three weigh the heaviest out of all the words in your title in search results.

I would suggest (from your example) something like 'Upcycled (or recycled) cat canvas, recycled paper kitty wall or desk art on green canvas' or 'Paper Cat Collage, recycled paper kitty wall or desk art on green canvas'

it's good to repeat as many tags as you can to help your relevancy (just don't be one of the obnoxious titles that are a random string of words)

I would avoid symbols like - and / some people say they screw up the search thing.. I'm not sure if it's true but why take the chance of hurting your search results? I can't see how it would effect the search but who knows.

Re: Are the first 3 words of an item's title the most important?

Personally, I would call your piece 'mixed media wall art, 6 x 6, crazy kitty'

I try to use title that say WHAT is being sold at the beginning of the title, with a bit of description to follow.

You are selling 'mixed media wall art' so that would come first.

I don't worry about the first three words being the most important but I do try to put WHAT is for sale at the beginning of the title.

Re: Are the first 3 words of an item's title the most important?

Go to google and type in the search a question: "what the most searched word for ......." and fill the blank. You will get to google page who will give you diagram and very clear idea about the word you may want to use in the beginning of your title and description too. When you get to the page try few words that relate to your item and decide what word to use. Good luck.
