Sitting Duck?

Hi there my fellow Etsians :)

I was just wondering how some of you folks have gotten that "break" or big feature, as seen in tv shows, magazines, publications, etc. Did you promote? Did you seek out the particular venue or party? Or did it just come to you out of the blue?

I'm curious about this topic. Big or small, feel free to chime in :)

I wish I was able to answer that question but alas, I cannot. I will follow this to see what anyone might say 'cause I am working my little tail off waiting to be discovered.

We got featured on the cover of a local magazine last year. They found us on Twitter and contacted us out of the blue wanting to do an interview. It was really exciting, but didn't generate very many sales which was a bit disappointing. I think we just didn't have enough products to get people's attention yet.

That's pretty cool @Story! I never really thought of linking in with local newspapers/magazines...I always try to think of different baby-related places I could be rubbing elbows with

I have been able to submit a bio of my shop on some craft websites and such, have gotten some views from there.

My biggest break so far is being featured in the museum shop in Clarksville, TN. A friend told me "they are looking for local artists" and so I emailed the lady there and she loved my work. Along with the feature, my work got an ad in the local paper, which is awesome. I am still small potatoes, but having someone come up to me at the last craft show I did and recognize my work was a real ego boost!
