Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Yuri,

Links on Pinterst, Facebook, Twitter, Wanelo. etc. are not considered duplicate content. The duplicate content would be in the TEXT not on the photos or titles.

Posts on Pinterst and other social networking web sites always link to somewhere else on the Internet, such as your shop, where all the detailed TEXT information is.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

So another question about duplicate content. I was wondering if using the same word frequently in my tags will be considered duplicate content and hurt me? in other words, if i tag an item with keyword phrases such as:
family name sign
rustic wood sign
last name sign
custom wood sign
etc.
will this be considered duplicate content because of the repeated use of the word sign? i'm tagging items that way because they come up as phrases like that in the keyword search. but i didn't know if that would hurt me in the long run? thanks so much for your help. alli

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

hi Alli
no
b/c google does not read etsy tags .
so you do not have to worry.

google : dup. content is a google thing.
and dup. content is about the " text / your descriptions " only.

etsy tags are for etsy only. Its for etsy search only.

for ex: i have the word " earrings" repeated a few times in my tags .

so...you are OK !

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

So if the "high hundreds" keyword count is classified as "High" competition, should we even bother using those if all others are < 100 ? Same for Medium < 100 ?

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Ignore the " hi, med,low"
Because
Those are for buying google ad only.

If you plan to buy an ad in google, then those " hi,med, low" will tell you how much / or how little that word may cost you ( bid price , hi means it will cost more )
--------------------

You are going to look at the search count only.
In the most general term since each item is diff.
Any count less than,
Say ,
<100
Is too low
That means in the world USA,
Each month, barely any living soul
used that term to search for that item.

Does that make sense ?

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Hello,
I want to ask ; when I search adwords google for keywords, some keyword phrases seems never searched. For example for my shop, I search ''kilim pillow'' but there is only 6 or 7 word phrases. And when I search ''Pink kilim pillow'' there is nothing, only ( - ) for this word phrase. Is it possible or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for help

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

I found a link in this thread to an Etsy post about Google Analytics. I have been trying to follow it but it looks like the GA website is different? Just noticed that the post was published in 2011. No wonder. Are there any more recent documents/posts/instructions on how to best use GA? I am kinda lost right now. LOL.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Hi there, I was getting 4-5 sales a week and all of a sudden sales stopped. What gives? If I can remember correctly it happened after I increased my most selling product a few dollars, but have since decreased it back thinking that was the problem? Thank you

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Jennifer,

Your shop is very new. Etsy usually gives new shops a chance of the top of the search results - for a while. Each category is different, but it would probably take 1 or more sales per day to stay near the top of the Relevancy search results.

New shops have a hard time and have to make sales through promotion and marketing so that they can be seen more and more in Etsy searches.

Based on my testing on Relevancy searches, most of the listings shown on the first few pages are
1. from shops with a lot of sales
2. listings of items that have many sales (sold and relisted)
3. listings with many hearts/favorites
4. listings included in many treasuries

In other words, popular listings.

As a business, Etsy wants to know that your shop can be trusted to ship the items ordered and receive positive feedback from your buyers. The best thing you can do for better visibility on Etsy is to market and promote your shop everywhere to make more sales and get your listings back up to the top of Relevancy search results where all the shoppers are.

It would also help if the keyword phrases in your listings were a bit more organized so that the Google and Etsy search engines could make easier sense of what you are selling

This listing title:
Newborn Peacock Tutu And Feather Fascinator Headband Newborn Photography prop/wedding/ Girl Birthday
Would work better in search results this way:
Newborn Headband Peacock Feather Headband Newborn Photo Prop

ALWAYS research keywords with Google Adwords so that you know which keyword phrases are at least somewhat popular and good to use and which words are not really keywords used in searches.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Can you give better range of search number I should use? You mention high hundreds. Would you say 500 but no higher than 1,000 or something else. I hate to change my tags and find out I did them to wrong number. I have also done research on google web, google shopping and etsy. If you have any suggestions on using those numbers as well.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Candace,

I would concentrate on finding targeted keywords first and then consider the search counts. In this listing title, there is no indication what this item really is:
Gift Idea For Mother's Day, Special Birthday Gift for Mom D15.
You are missing out if you leave out the very basic information that distinguishes this from a hat, a scarf, a dress, a picture frame, earrings, etc. You can still include the very general keywords such as gift ideas but the first keyword phrase should be targeted, like this:
Multi-color Bead Bracelet, Gift Idea For Mother's Day, Special Birthday Gift for Mom D15.

Targeted keyword phrases like this convert views into sales much better than very general keyword phrases. Very general keyword phrases, such as "gift ideas . . . " have a great deal of competition from other Etsy shops and other Web sites to work well in getting more views.

Work on finding at least one targeted keyword phrase and use it in the beginning of the listing title so that it can be seen on Google. Keyword phrases at the beginning of the listing title work better on Etsy as well.

When you use keyword phrases that are very popular on Google and have a high number of searches as well as competition from other web sites, you will have to work on building backlinks so that you can rank better than the competition and benefit from using popular and competitive keywords.

For targeted keywords, search counts are usually lower than the search counts for general keywords but they do convert views into sales much better. Just make sure that the keywords you use have some past record of searches on Google Adwords.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Thanks. I have 4 of mothers bracelets so I did not want to title them all mothers bracelet. Maybe I should put "mothers bracelet" at end or middle of some titles?

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Candace,

It is okay to use exactly the same keywords in every listing title as long as the listing description is different for each listing.

You can try changing the placement of the same keyword in each listing and then see which ones get the most views. Testing like this can sometimes reveal surprising results.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Thanks I will work on that. I guess I was just trying to utilize as many keywords as I could be giving each one different title. The Mothers bracelet you mentioned in earlier thread actually gets hits from google product listing ads and is my best seller of all 4 mothers bracelets so Im scared to mess with it. lol

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Mary, in google keyword search, there's "competition" what does high, medium, and low exactly mean? would that be better if my keyword is medium rather than high, so the competition is lower?

Also how many keywords should I be using in the title and description? I know too many are not good, but what would be the good number of keywords to use? how many times each keyword should be used in the description? is once okay? does the length of the description matter? short or long?

sorry for the many questions, but it'd be great if you can help me when you have time. thanks!

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Candace,

Do not change anything that is working for you. Change another listing instead.

One thought: Add the targeted keyword phrase, "Multi-color Bead Bracelet" to the end of the listing title and to the tags. This will not affect the views from Google.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

DistinQueJewelry,

The High, Medium and Low Competition information on Google Adwords is only for Google Adwords Advertisers. You should only be concerned with this if you are planning on running ads on Google using those keywords.

I have found I can use 3 - 5 keyword phrases in the listing title although 3 keyword phrases seems to work better than 4 or 5 or more. Use these same keywords in the listing description at least once or more often if you have a long product description.

Your product descriptions are long enough for you to use each keyword phrase twice. Remember to eliminate as much duplicate text as possible to rank better on Google.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Amy,

Long listing titles are NOT bad for Google Searches. There is a technical explanation for this that can be hard to follow if someone is not technical. Basically, though, Etsy only shows Google the first 40 - 60 characters of the listing title, no matter how long the title is. As far as Google knows, that is the title for the listing. Here is an example from your shop:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/151663231/mason-jar-topper-with-recipe-for-muffin

The title for this listing is:
"Mason Jar Topper with Recipe for Muffin Mix in Blue, Purple, or Green"
This is the shorter title that Etsy shows to Google:
"Mason Jar Topper with Recipe for Muffin by BeadsandThreadsbyAmy"
Etsy cuts off the listing title and adds the words, "by yourshopname". All these words are 70 characters or less.

So you see, it does not matter how long the title is for a listing, Google will only see the title that Etsy creates for Google from your listing title. This is why it is very important to include the best keyword phrase at the beginning of the title to make sure all the words fit into what Google sees,

Anyone can view the shorter listing title by looking at the program code for any listing page or any other page on the Internet.
