PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

This thread is for discussions and questions about Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Google use all of the text on every Web page for searches on Google. Some parts of the Web page are more important to Google than others. Google does look at every page in your shop, including the Profile page and Policy page.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Hi: I just did a google search for "sari scarf" and one of my listings came up on images. I clicked through to my shop. I checked my stats about 2 hours later, and the google hit was not in my stats. Am I missing something?

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Did this ever show up in your stats?

It's possible that clicking from an image directly into your shop may not work with Etsy Stats.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Sorry, I can't answer previous question, but I do have a different question on Google SEO...
When I look at my shop's cache on Google, the only 2 words that are highlighted are "baby" and "hats", even though other words are clearly repeated on the page. Does this mean these are the only 2 words Google is pulling from my shop?

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Darlene, the words you see highlighted on the cache depends on the exact moment when Google took the screen print. These words are the primary keywords in your shop. This screen might have been captured during a search for "baby hats."

Depending on the Internet browser I am using, I see highlighted words when I search on Google for something. The words I use in my search are often highlighted on the Web page. I am pretty sure that the Firefox browser does this.

Thank you! I haven't seen the highlights before during search (I have Safari) but that makes sense.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

I have something interesting here..... i was getting 8-10 google views a day with my old keywords for shop title and announcement, yet when i searched for these keywords, my shop was coming up on the first page of google search (Q: why so little views then?)

Now, i just changed my shop's title, announcement and sections (not listing titles since i run etsyonsale app). Mary, is there a possibility my shop won't come up on the first page of google (regular google, not shopping)? And is my shop's title looks ok: Whimsical Art, Canvas Wall Art, Fine Art Prints (keywords checked on google keywords and they seem pretty good). Also should i repeat "art"? i kind of need to since these are exact phrases.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Helen,

It is easy to show up on page one of Google when you use keywords that are not at all popular, are rarely used and have little or no competition from other Web sites. This is also the reason why it's easy to show up at the top of Google for your shop name - no other Web site is competing for that word. These words will not bring you many views from Google.

The keywords you are using now in the shop name are very good. These new keywords are used by many other Web sites. You will have to work on building backlinks to move your shop and listings up higher in Google search results where you can get more and more views. You can read more about backlinks here: http://www.etsy.com/teams/11352/relevancy-and-seo-for-all-etsy-shops/discuss/9617969

Your shop title looks really good. You can repeat a word like ART several times in the title if you like. Google takes into account all the text on every web page, including the welcome text. Someone would have to repeat one word many, many more times in the shop text before Google considers it excessive.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

I am such a beginner. I never really understood "keywords". Is that the same thing as tags? Or are keywords also part of what is in your description?

Etsy only allows tags to be a few characters long. Some of the keywords I saw in the review team's suggestions for people were over 20 characters (I think that is the limit, isn't it?) So I'm guessing that keywords are anywhere in your listing?

As you can see, I really need this team.

to Jill & other new members,
when we " brainstorm keywords"
in the SEO Reviews Team

they are ....just " brainstorming "
try to think like a shopper
that's all,
those are NOT the final keywords yet.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Just briefly about keywords:
Most searches on the Internet begin with words that we call keywords. These keywords can be one word or several words together, such as, "bracelets" or "sterling silver chainmalle bracelets."

Longer keyword phrases are more targeted (specific) and convert better (views to sales) than the more broad keywords, like "bracelets."

Unfortunately, long ago when Etsy first started, there was not much thought given to the length of keyword phrases and now we have to do the best we can to fit longer keyword phrases into more than one tag.

Fortunately, though, we can use these nice long keyword phrases in the listing title where they work very well both in Etsy Relevancy search results and with Google search results.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

I seem to be getting more "hits" from google lately! Wahhhooo! In my Etsy stats, however, oftentimes the keywords (or search words) that someone uses to find my listing or shop comes back as "Not Provided" or "Blank Search." What does this mean?

I am studying the search terms people are using to find my shop and listings, but am puzzled by this.

Thanks as always for any help!

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

Lauren,

The words "Not Provided" mean that the search engines did not pass along the keywords that were used in the search. The words, "Blank Search" might mean that the search terms were intentionally hidden by the people searching.

You can see what each phrase means by hovering the mouse pointer over the question mark to the right of the phrase.

Sometimes search terms are puzzling. On Etsy, your listings or shop can be found by any combination of words in the listing titles and tags, some of which are very strange indeed.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

In Google Adwords although keywords are noted as "high", under the heading competition, the global and local searches might have some keywords in the thousands and some in the hundreds. Why are they still consider high if the keywords in the hundreds or less?

For example:
Competition Global monthly searches Monthly local search
High 9,900 6,600
High 480 320

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

the " high" refers to
you / or anyone who like to buy the google adwords
the cost of the adwords

high competition = it will cost you more if you like to place an ad / buy an ad / a person has to bid for those keywords

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

The competition words, HIGH, MED and LOW, are for Google PPC Advertising competition, not Google search competition.

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

So when picking good keywords, picking high competition words are not necessarily good for search? I'm so new to SEO it isn't funny. This week I've been trying to learn the basics and improve my shop. I just did all my tags using high competition keywords please tell me that isn't wrong. lol! And if it is wrong, how do I pick good keywords using the keyword tool?

I can't get my Google Analytics Dashboard to come up. Anyone know the trick? I only check it once a month or so and used to be able to click on 'old view' but can't find that now. Thanks for any help!!

Re: PINNED: Discuss Google SEO: Keywords and Text

ask me any question about keywords
here is my service charge today ( will likely change tomorrow )

~ fast answer = no charge
~ quick & correct answer = one cup of coffee
~ time consuming & detailed answer = priceless , i will send you a bill LOl just kidding !

picking good keywords :
is a million dollar question that requires a lot of trail & error
it is NOT NOT NOT difficult at all & NOTas hard as you think
just need to spend a lot of time to play w/ the adword tool
know your target market
know what your buyers MAY use to look for your items
spending some time to test it out is
the BEST way to know which word is good for you.

in the most general term:
you don't want a super high count keywords ( like 12,000 , 28000, etc those in the thousands or hundred of thousand ) too much competitions !
