Hi everyone! Part of being part of a team is to get to know each other so I've started this thread where we can just chat.

Its not for posting new listings (there are separate threads for that) but just so that we can chat.

Anyone interested?

It doesn't have to be about crochet either. It can be about anything at all!

knittylittlesecret says

Oh my god, seriously, Crochetgal, where did you get all the ladder yarn from? Are you the reason I can't find it in any stores?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I told you, I'd have to kill you! lol !!!

Lets just say that someone made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. So far I've catalogued over 500 balls of the ladder yarn and that's not the end of it. So if there is a particular colour combination that you are looking for, just ask!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Crochet, I thought I had a lot of yarn until I looked over your shop!

I love ladder yarns - the scarf posted above was knit of Ocean Trellis, a favorite. I can't understand why Lion brand ever discontinued that yarn, the other brands don't come close.

Re: General Team Chat for August

Great thread! It is a great idea, to chat it up, with fellow yarnies.
Between yarn, and school, and learning to walk after spending 8 years in a wheelchair, my life is CRAZY. But, I am loving it all. =)

ADifferentYarn, walking after 8 years in a wheelchair totally trumps all the craziness involving back to school for me! Great job and I hope it all goes smoothly!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Ladies - feel free to visit Wales - we have lots of ladder yarn still in our shops.

I don't know about other non-US people here but I'm finding that for the last two months - at least - my etsy shop has been very quiet. I'm in a few UK teams and the general view seems to be that until the US gets its economy in order the rest of the world - on etsy, that is, this is NOT a political comment - is going to suffer. It's certainly VERY slow for everyone here.

What's it like in GrandePrairie? We lived in Regina, Saskatchewan, for 11 years - great time. Sick parents brought us back here, and then schools kept us back. Now it's grandchildren - and it's lovely finding someone older than me on here - I'm 67. You must have stamina to be still working at knitting and crochet at 71 - good on you.

I'm sure you can tell that although i've tried to remember everyone's names, I've actually forgotten them. Sorry about that - I'll try to be more organised in future, it's not meant to be rude. I just know that if i go back to the earlier posts to check them this post will disappear.

Raining - again! At least the heating's been fixed.

Re: General Team Chat for August

just found this team today - i was looking for some new etsy love - though i totally love my other team.

it is still hot in chicago but not nearly as oppressive as it was. that's a good thing because next weekend we are having a sit and knit to benefit Cancer Treatment Center of America and the mansion where it's held doesn't have air conditioning so we will be out on the veranda making hats for CTCA patients...

i hope everyone has a great weekend. boy, is it just me or has it been really intense around chez etsy? we, ok, I can use a breather!!
think i'll knit something just for fun!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Sweet mother of pearl!!! Over 500 balls?!?! My goodness!!!!! That's like heaven for me!!! Well...that and Ryan Reynolds.

So ... Arizona, eh? Too far away for me to break into. I guess I'll have to get the yarn the legit way. Sigh.

I've been trying to knit lately but find that I can't concentrate on any one pattern. I'm currently making a butterfly hat, mostly because it involves zero thinking on my part. I find I'm restless. I don't know if it's the upcoming nuptials or just going through a phase. Anyone else going through a phase?

MolliMade, I concur!!! Etsy HAS been slow. It seems there's lots of people but not many are interested in looking. Forget buying. It's the same here, too. I think a lot of people are worried about the economy. It's not necessarily that we're going to see another depression-like state but people aren't taking their chances. Which is good, we need to ensure that we save our money, not spend stupidly. However the knitter in me wants to beg everyone to spend stupidly and buy buy buy from your local Etsy shop!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Knitty - Yeah, I've been going through the same phase lately. I think for it's just that I've been knitting constantly and just need a break, I don't know. I borrowed a book from the library yesterday and it's due back in 7 days, maybe that'll force me to take a break, lol. I've been knitting pretty mindless patterns too; right now I'm working on a ladies sized cowl.

designbcb - I can't WAIT for the holiday season!!! I hope you're right, I hope everyone shows up and buys from all of us then.

Re: General Team Chat for August

That's probably it. I've been knitting nonstop and maybe a break is all that's needed but I knit at work (I work night shifts) and reading just doesn't cure the boredom. I find now that I knit (6 years now) I can't NOT knit at work. Maybe I just need to teach myself how to sit and do nothing.

I, too, hope the business picks up. Even if there aren't any sales, some viewings would really help.

But I've also noticed that since you can "favourite" an item just by clicking the heart in the corner (which doesn't count towards the number of views) that the viewings have gone down. Maybe there's a correlation?

Re: General Team Chat for August

I'm like that when I watch tv... I have to knit or I'll go nuts. What kind of work do you do, Knitty?

Yeah, that could be it - I like being able to mark something as a "favorite" if I see something in a thread on one of my teams, especially if I'm in a hurry and know I want to look at it later. But that does cut down on the amount of views that we end up getting. Out of curiosity, how many views do you guys average per day? I'm so new to this still, I don't know if I'm getting a lot of views or not.

Re: General Team Chat for August

My old items (before the heart days) are at an average of 150+ views and they were originally listed in February but new listings are far under 50 so I think that has something to do with it. I don't know how to check for average views per day.

HA! Are you ready for this? I can guarantee you've never heard this before: I am the knitting security guard. It pays the bills, isn't a career, is where I met my fiance and when I leave work I don't ever think about it (no stress = happy me).

Re: General Team Chat for August

check this out - if you go to the top right corner of your page you see where it says "Your Account"? Go there but don't click, a menu will pop down and you'll see different options. Click on "Statistics" and it will take you to a page where you can see how many views you've gotten on your store and your listings plus how many "favorites" you've gotten. You set it for just today, for just yesterday, for the whole month or for last month. Oh, or for the last 7 days. I get obsessed over this feature... it's pathetic, I check it way too often, lol!

The knitting security guard, lol, that's awesome!!!!

Re: General Team Chat for August

My bad, from the menu it's "shop stats" not "statistics".

Re: General Team Chat for August

knitting, thanks for reminding me about the stats figure - I had forgotten that!
I'm another one who's been knitting constantly. Sales have been slow, so I've been adding more yarn destashing and that's helped some. I too hope the holiday season will be a good one, and I'm also going to do a craft fair in November that was very good for me last year, so I'm not discouraged -- yet!

The 'knitting security guard'! I love it!
Watch out for 'shop stats'. Between that and craftcult.com and craftopolis.com you can spend the entire day looking at stats!
