General Team Chat for August

Hi everyone! Part of being part of a team is to get to know each other so I've started this thread where we can just chat.

Its not for posting new listings (there are separate threads for that) but just so that we can chat.

Anyone interested?

It doesn't have to be about crochet either. It can be about anything at all!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Right now I'm trying to cope with this horrendous heat that's summer in the desert southwest. I really feel bad for those of you who have had the heatwave this summer and whose homes don't have central air conditioning.

At least we have that to be thankful for!

But I'll still be much happier when I can walk outside during the day and not return with third degree burns after just a few minutes...

Good idea crochetgal. Thankfully, here in the midwest, the heatwave is over here for the time being at least. I'm just sitting here working on a dress for a teddy bear that I have an order for and checking out the forums.

Re: General Team Chat for August

Hi everyone! Great idea, crochetgal. I feel that often times, we get caught up in business related concerns, and don't really take the time to simply get to know people!

We have just finished enduring the heat wave, and let me tell you---it was horrible. I am very much looking forward to fall, but at the same time, sad because it doesn't last very long in my part of the country.
I miss those wonderful fall days!

I would love to be able to take my two girls (beagles) for walks nightly. They are 10 and 12 and believe it or not--still able to take lengthy walks. haha

Re: General Team Chat for August

I loved the heatwave we had in July here in the midwest! I just wish it lasted a little longer so we can enjoy our pool. Unfortunately, the cool weather and the rains have cooled the temperature of the water and I can't bring myself to swim in the pool when it is so cold. On the other hand, I have been catching up with my crochet work since I haven't been able to spend my freetime in the pool! If only I could get motivated to weed the flower gardens....LOL

Re: General Team Chat for August

Good idea on this thread, crochet gal! Yes, the heat has been miserable here in the south too. I count down the days until autumn. However, it has been nice staying in on those hot days and catching up on some knitting ;).

CrochetNanna, I'll gladly give you Kentucky's heat for the midwest's cool weather and rain! A cold pool sounds so nice right now, haha =).

Re: General Team Chat for August

We had a bit of a heatwave all through July here but so far, luckily, August's been a bit cooler. It's only 71 degrees right now and supposedly we're getting thunderstorms later, yay! I love thunderstorms!!! :*)

So what are everyone's plans for the week? What do you have going on?

Hi everyone!

I'm in NC and we had the heatwave as well! Hated it! Going to be a much cooler...(well 90's if that is considered cooler) but much less humid this week..Yay!!!

Re: General Team Chat for August

I HATE the heat. My ideal temperature would be 60 year round! :)

I don't have much going on this week, except for working on my crafts and maybe some house cleaning...UGH!!!
Of course, I will procrastinate on that for as long as humanly possible.

Just curious..what is the price of gas where everyone is at?!?!?
We just dropped 20 cents over the weekend to 3.21/gallon. And to think--we're rejoicing because we think that is LOW!!!
I remember when it was 1.09/gallon! Sigh...when will those days come around again.

Re: General Team Chat for August

This horrible heat wave has been all over! In Central VA, the past two or three days have been much nicer because of some on/off rain. I hope the heat doesn't come back...

DineinStyle- not sure how much gas is around here because I've been avoiding looking haha. But I remember when it cost me just $15 to fill up my tank! Oh, how I miss it!

Not much planned for this week for me, except that I have a job interview tonight! eek! Wish me luck! :)

Re: General Team Chat for August

I am laughing at the gas prices. Here is something to make everyone laugh. When I first got my driver's licence in 1958 or 59, gas was 19 CENTS a gallon!!!! And that included someone pumping the gas for you, checking your oil and tires and washing the windshield! Believe it, it is true!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Crotchetgal I am with you this is my third summer in the desert. I get up at 5.15am now and am out the door at 5.30 with my dogs home at 6.30 anything past that is to hot for me. I have lived in Virginia loved the history but the humidity was horrible and the flys were big enough to run off with you. I swore I would not complain about our weather after seeing the devastation of tornado's and floods so I am not complaining even if it sounds like I am ha ha.

I paid $3.45 for gas on Friday.

I have my Grandson here for two weeks having fun with him, and driving him back to San Diego Sat coming back Wed after taking him to first day of 2nd grade.

Good luck Ifitknits.

Re: General Team Chat for August

Oh the good old days!!! I remember putting a couple of dollars in the car when I first came to the US. I do combine my shopping trips as nothing is really close here of course it does mean getting into a burning hot car several times. Last week I forgot to put a towel on the steering wheel and had to wrap the towel around the steering wheel it was so hot ( not complaining)

Re: General Team Chat for August

I was super happy to pay *only* $3.34 for gas yesterday...but even at that price it cost me $30 for half a tank...I miss my little compact car more and more.

I live in Wichita Falls TX, and we've had temps 112* and above for WEEKS. We had about 50 days in row above 100 when *finally* it rained for a few hours and we have beautiful low temps in the upper 90's.

My oldest two kiddos are starting school for the first time in a week and I think I'm more nervous about it than they are!

Re: General Team Chat for August

I'm in NC on the coast (southernmost) and it's been hot, but I love it. I dread the cold weather. MY house is on stilts and there's no way to keep the floors warm in winter. Even my slippers don't warm my feet (age may have something to do with it :) With AC I can knit all year, and that makes life perfect!
Gas here seems to be going down - was at $3.56 today. Thank goodness for my small Focus.

Re: General Team Chat for August

Well, we are still in a heat wave here in Texas. It is over 100 again today. I am ready for it to be about 85 again. We did finally get some rain this past Sat. though. We still need a lot more. A lot of my flowers have died, unfortunately.
I have been busy getting my 3 sons ready to start school next week. I am hoping to have more time to crochet, knit and sew after they get back into school.
Gas around here is about $3.36 today. It has been going down over the last couple of weeks. I try and ride my bike some places but it has been challenging with this heat.

Re: General Team Chat for August

I live in Western New York and gas is at about $3.80 here. That's for regular. :*( I don't know why but gas is always more expensive here than in other parts of the country.

Wow, my daughter doesn't go back to school until September 6th! We're not ready yet; still have some school supplies to buy plus those 'back-to-school' clothes.

I have wayyy too much to do this week -> I work in a pharmacy part-time so I've got to work Tuesday & Friday this week; I just finished 2 custom orders and now I'm working on a line of Christmas Candle Holder Covers and I'm trying to decide what bigger project to work on next. Oh, I have some dishcloths to make too. I swear, I need to teach my 7 year old how to knit so that she can help, lol! ;*) All that plus doing the daily math review with Chloe for school, keeping the house clean and everything else.... like I said, wayyyyy too much to do, lol!!! It'll be fun though. :*)

Re: General Team Chat for August

I live in Wales in the UK. We were the childcare for two of our grandchildren today, and after we got home my husband lit a fire it was so cold.It was - in the middle of the day - about 18C which is 64F. And it started to rain at around 4.00.

On the other hand I hate weather which is hot and humid - so I think you're all very welcome to your heatwave. I'll stick to the rain and the green fields.

We still have 3 weeks of school holidays to go - and we're the childcare for two days a week, and we still run a business and I have my crochet.

Diesel is around £1.36 here - $2.21 - but that is for a litre, not a gallon. There are 5 litres to a gallon, so our equivalent is over $11.00 a gallon. Don't complain ladies.

I'm Margaret, by the way.

Re: General Team Chat for August

Good luck lfitknits on your interview!

LoveNYarn, I'm in NC too, the Raleigh area, if your house is on stilts you must be right on the beach? So jealous, our family just went for a week down to Carolina Beach, loved it!! So relaxing.

I think on Saturday, we paid about $3.56 a gallon.

Mollimade: You are soooo lucky to have such wonderful temperatures. I would love to have such weather year round, if I could.
As it stands, I am sitting in the air conditioning right now and STILL sweating! There's no relief. haha
I'm in Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.

We've been dropping in price as far as gas. I think we're at 3/21/gal now.

KnittingNY: I was just in the Woodstock area a few weeks back. Not sure if you're anywhere near there, but it was a beautiful area!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Oh, I know, the college student from Japan that fell over the rail. I guess she'd been sitting on the rail and when she got up she slipped and fell in? I don't know the exact details. It's sad though, last I'd heard her body hadn't been found yet. :*(

Niagara Falls is nice, especially in the winter!!! :*)

Re: General Team Chat for August

If anyone wants some heat, they are more than welcome to some of ours.

Here in the desert southwest the temps are over 100F from May to October, just like in southern Texas.

However, our winters are absolutely beautiful! All we need is a sweatshirt and to find a pair of socks.

Its a quiet day here as I'm nursing my one dog today. She had surgery yesterday to remove a mole on her cheek and while she was in, the doctor removed about a dozen others and cleaned her teeth as well. She's resting comfortably right now but doesn't like it when I leave the room today. She's 13 years old but thinks she's a puppy!
