Let's Be Respectful

first off it is not my goal to upset anyone with this post, and these are only my thoughts. i would like to learn what others feel about this. it is my opinion when commenting on someone's blog to be as respectful as possible. that means leaving a comment that is on topic to the post, & is thoughtful. to just leave a comment like 'great blog' & then the website to your blog isn't respectful. as far as i'm concerned those types of comments tell me that person doesn't care about what i have to say, they don't care about my blog, and are just using my blog to promote their own blog. i will delete those types of comments. i will go look at a blog when someone leaves a thoughtful on topic comment. always be signed in when you leave a comment, never leave an anonymous comment. Others can go back to your blog by clicking on your username, which brings up your profile, and your blog is linked to your profile.

just my thoughts on the subject. what do the rest of you think?

Honestly I think this is a tough subject. I participate in a lot of blog hops and you almost always get the "Hi, I'm following you from _____. Please follow me back at ____." I know those people are most likey not reading my blog but I still participate in the hops because every once in a while someone will come over from a hop and really like what I have to say. I try to read everyone's blog from hops but sometimes it can just be too overwhelming. I think you just kinda have to take the good with the bad and you have to accept that some people will be like that but you have to have them visit in order for the ones that really like your blog to visit. Does that make sense?

That being said, if someone asks for a follow back and I don't have time at that time to write an indepth comment, I follow and go back later to leave a comment. And I do go through all the blogs on my reader every day - so eventually I will land back on your blog!

I agree with you staceyalberta :) but sometimes i do just leave comments such as 'I love your blog' if I geniunely really like a blog, but I wouldn't lie just to get recognition on my blog xx

no i do understand what you are saying, and i can see your side. it is one thing to just follow i always go & check out the blog & follow back. i don't expect every one who follows me to leave a comment at that time like you said they will come back & look when they have the time. however if someone is going to leave a comment the website in the comment just kind of rubs me the wrong way...lol.

OK, I'm with you there - I would be ticked (and have been in the past) when someone just leaves a website. I actually wrote a post that was so hard for me to write a month or so back about my son being adopted by my hubby and telling him this and the first comment I got on there was "Please follow me back at _____." It was so funny, the next person who read it posted this long tirade about how rude it was to post that on a post that was so serious. I try to be respectful of all the blogs I follow and I make it a point to read at least 2 posts from every blog before I post a comment because it is rare that I can't find something to talk about it two posts! And sometimes I will let them know that I'm following them from such and such hop but I make sure to tell them what I enjoy about their blog first.

Unfortunately, there are many people out there who don't even read the first line of a post but instead just copy and paste a comment. I don't like that at all!

thank you i feel heard....lol.....how horrible to write such a meaningful post & to get a comment like 'follow me back' jmfender i'm like you i read at least two posts & comment like you said in two posts i should find something to say...lol.

Along with this, I really find it disrespectful when people follow your blog to enter a giveaway, and if they don't win, they unfollow!

How rude! I'd rather have a few followers who actually care, rather than 1000 followers who just want to freeload.

@ mirilovelove ~ i've heard of this happening & i agree it is rude! i totally agree a few followers who care is better i think than 1000 that as you put it freeload.
