Shop-Specific Advice

Hi! :-)

Now I have sorted out the links and logo, I thought it was time to start a thread for shop specific advice. I will no longer be offering personal advice over convo, as I have been recently.

That's because I'm typing out a lot of the same information, and if you HAVE to go for this blasted Team Forum thing, we need to try and make as much information available as possible.

This discussion is visable to all.

Simply post a link to the shop you would like looked at, and I or another SEO helper will gladly have a poke around and offer you some personal advice for your shop.

Keep us updated on how things go! And don't forget I have a 5 day SEO course for beginners which might help you get started :-)

Can someone please explain what "Bounce rate" is on GA??

I have only been getting an average of 14 visits a day and have a 75% bounce rate...any advice would mean the world!! Thank you

Ms Katies, I was wondering the same thing. My bounce rate runs consistently 80% and I do want to bring it down, but not sure what to do.

MsKatie, bounce rate = The percentage of single-page visits (i.e. visits in which the person left your site from the entrance page). meaning they left your site right away cause it wasnt they were looking for.

For instance, the search for "black shiny raincoat" has brought people to my site... obviously, I dont make any "black shiny raincoats" out of wood, so they leave my site after seeing it was an irrelevant search

when you post, your shop name is direct link to your shop :)

Hi i have a new jewelry shop just opened in last month. I am on facebook and have joined blogspot but not really sure what to do now i have joined. Had one sales so far, am planning on reshooting some of my photos and spending ages on looking at keywords, titles and have just for first time relisted 3 items as i listed my whole shop in one day! not realising it would have been better to list in batches. I have so much to learn. Any help, comments would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to try and read your 5 day course and have also got google analytics and looking up how to work it on you tube! bit of a newbie at it all i am afraid.

Thankyou so much for taking the time to give me and my shop some advice- a great invaluable resource! It's good to know I'm doing my keywords right, and I certainly need to be more patient with analytics. I do have Twitter+ facebook set up, and have just got my first blog interview up as well as flickr going (hadn't even thought of that!).

One thing I'm still puzzled by is I have no idea how to get my bounce rate down- I'm hovering around 50%. Also how do I track when the site is crawled?

Your shop looks fantastic and i see you already have a sale :) Have you got yourself up with twitter/facebook yet? You don't need to list loads every day, but if you list just a couple of items each day it keeps you visible on etsy. Also when linking on your blog, remember it can be good to promote different shop sections rather than the main shop page all the time. Hope this helps-feel free to convo me if you think i might be able to answer further questions! x
