SEO for Dummies - Help!

I may be creative, but in no way does my brain come even close to understanding how to get that out to the world. SEO is going to be the death of me.

I've read articles, done the Google Adwords Keyword tool thingy, and I'm just stuck. Would anyone like to help me figure out what I can do to get some exposure out there. I am not sure if I'm listing my items correctly.

Thanks all!

Re: SEO for Dummies - Help!

SEO is simply 'Search Engine Optimization' or a fancy term for 'using titles to call your items what they are'.

So if you are selling hair bows, then each title should contain the phrase 'hair bow'. If you are selling a cuff, then the title should contain the word 'cuff', and so on.

You can mention the materials used in the piece and the colour in the title if you wish.

I've found that the best way to write a title is to start as if you are showing your latest creation to your friend. What would you say? 'Hey! Look at the neat new XXXXXXX that I just finished!

That XXXXXX then becomes your item title.

To select tags, simply start with the words and phrases from your title and go from there.

As for getting exposure, you need to be marketing directly to your customer. Who is most likely to purchase what you are selling? Where are they? That's where you do your marketing.

You may find that the 'critique your own shop' blog post at
etsymentors.blogspot.com/p/critique-your-own-shop.html
has some other useful tips as well.

Thank you! I think that my titles are good. They seem to the point and how I would describe it. Just think it probably takes a secret recipe for Google search.

I'll go check out that blogpost, thanks!

I saw a book the other day called exactly that, "SEO For Dummies". If I'd had enough money, I'd a got it. Barnes and Noble I think.

Stacy,
There's no 'secret recipe' for being found in a google search. If your buyers are looking for a 'Leather bow bracelet cuff' then you'll be fine. Otherwise you will need to work on your SEO.

Michael,

Rather than buy a book, why not just read what's already been posted? The 'critique your own shop' blog post at
etsymentors.blogspot.com/p/critique-your-own-shop.html
was written by the SASsy team members (Sellers Assisting Sellers team) and pretty much covers everything that you will need to know regarding Etsy SEO.

The 'SEO for Dummies' book is primarily written for those who are coding their own websites.
