I should probably say before I start, item views do NOT equal sales!
BUT I have seen people wondering in various places how to get their items seen more. How do people get 30-100 views within an hour of posting their item? How can I get people to SEE my stuff in a sea of similar items?
Well, I thought I would share what I do. Most of my newly listed items get between 20 and 50 views in the first few hours. Here's how:
Firstly, I list the item. I make sure my photos are clear close ups, my title is descriptive and keywordy and the description includes a link to a similar item.
Then:
1. I post the link to the item on twitter. I have over 1000 followers, so that probably helps. Click the link to the left to read my Beginner Twitter course, it might help you in this respect, and there is a cheeky tip or two to gaining followers.
2. I use Picnik to create a collage. I select 4 or 9 images of the same items (this is where it helps to upload things in little ranges, rather than individually. OR you could use different shops of the same item) See an example of one of my collages here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/twinklyspangle/5483382498/3. I post the collage on my blog with a link to my shop and a little bit about the new items. This has the advantage of showing up as the thumbnail in peoples blog reading applications, drawing people in.
4. I post the collage to Flickr, with a link to the blog post in the description of the picture, and add it to lots of Flickr groups related (Etsy, Folksy and handmade related groups are easy to find on Flickr and there are lots of them.)
5. I post the link to the blog post on twitter.
So, I'm drawing people in from Flickr, twitter AND my blog with each and every post, by linking them all together in this way.
