I got banned from the forums because I responded to a seller celebrating record high sales asking if some of his items (unaltered, commercially available items) were allowed on Etsy.
I told someone that a few of their listings were against etsy rules because all they were were advertising.
etsy told me that they changed that rule a few months ago so I should have known. I told them I post mainly on ebay boards and can't keep up with etsy changes. I assured them I would help another etsian again.
I am 64 and feel like I am in kindergarten. I realized that they are looking at this thru the eyes of a teenager or someone in their early 20's and I am sure it gives them an intense feeling of power. It doesn't, so they may be a little surprised down the road when they try to wield that power in other ways and find that they have none.
I have the ultimate ban! I got banned yesterday - January 1 - as a Happy New Year - Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
My 3rd unforgivable infraction? Telling a buyer who'd opened 4 threads screaming about Etsy to - and I quote - "get a grip." One admin shut down his 3 previous threads without providing him any direction - and then wondered why he was getting out of control.
Apparently I am considered mean.
I sent them a long email detailing the various undeleted posts in other threads that are synonyms for 'get a grip' including: take a chill pill chill dude you are a very unpleasant person and need to take it down a notch have a snickers - you're not yourself today (LOVED this one) tone down the freak out
Those are all acceptable. I had no idea that at 48 I was back in high school.
i am honestly a lot nicer person and much happier etsian being muted.
i was muted long ago for rules that arent enforced now, and most of those muted around the same time as I, have appealed and been reinstated, but im just happier not even being tempted to go in the forum.
im not even angry or disgruntled with admin, just like to be in some teams and make stuff
Hello all! I would love to post, but noticed this thread is public, so I won't put down any details.
Anyway, was banned temporarily a little while ago, but am back out there again. Minding my manners. Most of the time I just want to speak up for those who are getting one hell of a bashing there! I feel like a coward holding my tongue, or phrasing oh-so-delicately, when I see it happening. It has got me thinking very carefully before I post, which isn't a bad thing, but I tiptoe too much, because the next time I'll be shut up permanently.

Welcome Kathy, I know what you mean. There is a great big grey area in what is and what isn't allowed in the forums and it's become obvious that me and my mouth live in said grey area. Last time I posted something I sounded like a "Stepford Wife" I'm a buffalo tip toeing on eggs shells, which is why I chose a self imposed mute, the ol' better me then them school of thought. Right now I'm not on their "Do not fly list" but I think I'm on a watch list for sure.

Especially as 'Stepford wife' definitely came to mind for me as well, when I first returned, chastened and finally freed from my prison of silence, timidly looking around for something safe to read, and thinking of something safe to write. It's all so sweet and clean, isn't it, and we are all such a happy lot! I'm also on their naughty list, and I feel as if they use any excuse to get me next time.
Yes, Lou Ann, I certainly hope the OP was able to sort it out. They were BRUTAL on that thread - one in particular really shocked me. And I also had one of them dogging every post I made and annoyingly repeating it, then criticizing it. I wonder if she was baiting me. It took some self-control to say what I wanted to say without getting angry, and even then my message was diluted. It was nice to have you there Lou Ann, you were definitely one of those there with a heart!
Someone mentioned that this feels very Orwellian. I couldn't agree more. I feel like I'm in Nineteen Eighty Four!
I had a post removed recently for simply responding to a cryptic post about what she meant. (The post was making implications about an OP).
I hope this team can have private threads soon. I'm sure more people will join if it does!
I have no earthly ideal why but apparently resellers are left to stay on board but mute an angel as myself go figure. I would like to know who the wizards are who are in charge of the mutings.. faces please
I wonder why the forums are even public at all? We shouldn't have to feel so inhibited in honest discussion. Abusive behaviour should be policed, yes, and it doesn't hurt to have a good think before you post, but free expression and honesty should be welcomed! Are they hoping the forums will serve as advertising?
