Shop Updates

Shop Updates

Shop Updates is a feature of the Sell on Etsy app for iOS and Android that allows you to upload and share photos. These photos may relate to you, your items, or your shop as a whole. The photos can be used as a promotional tool, allowing you to express your creative process by:

• Showing a work in progress

• Highlighting new items in your shop

• Displaying different ways that your products might be used

Once you upload a photo, you'll be prompted to tag the photo with an active listing in your shop and add a caption. Once your photo has been uploaded and tagged, you’ll have the option to share it on your social media apps. These photos will collect into a feed that is linked to your shop homepage, and will also be shown to certain buyers who follow you on Etsy.

Accessing Shop Updates

You’ll notice Shop Updates in the app's navigation menu. Tapping Shop Updates will begin an introduction to the feature, which ends with a prompt to take your first photo.

Uploading and Editing Shop Updates

Because Shop Updates is a feature of the Sell on Etsy app, you must use the app to upload new photos and delete existing ones.

To upload a new photo to Shop Updates, launch the Sell on Etsy app and tap Shop Updates on the navigation menu. Tap the camera icon at the bottom of the screen. From here, you’ll have the option to take a photo using the camera on your mobile device, or you can upload an existing photo from your device.

Once you upload a photo, you will be prompted to tag the photo with an active listing from your shop. An orange tag will appear, and you can place this tag anywhere on the photo. For buyers, clicking on this tag will take them to the listing page for that particular item.

If you wish to edit an existing shop update, tap on the photo, then tap the three dots in the top right corner of your device's display. Shop Updates can only be managed from the Sell on Etsy app.

Sharing Your Shop Updates

Once you upload a photo, you’ll be given the option to share the photo on social apps that you have installed on your device. The app you wish to share to must already be installed on your device. For example, if you wish to share your Shop Update to the Facebook app, you must already have the Facebook app installed on your device and be signed in. If you’re sharing to this app for the first time, your device may ask you for permission before it passes the information from one app to the next.

You can share a Shop Update that you’ve already uploaded by tapping on that photo from the app and tapping the three dots in the top right corner of your device. Then, tap Share.

The apps that you can use include but are not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Google Plus, SMS, and email.

Note: Some apps have certain limitations to the types of information that can be passed between apps. For example, if you’re sharing one of your Shop Updates to Instagram, you’ll only be able to share the photo and not the caption or link back to your shop. The experience will vary between apps.

Keep in mind that once a tagged listing is no longer available, that Shop Update will no longer be visible to other members.

After You Share Your Shop Updates

Shop Homepage

Once you’ve uploaded your first photo, buyers will see this in the new Shop Updates section under the About section in your shop homepage. Once buyers click on this new section, they’ll see all your Shop Updates, along with the listings that you’ve tagged. Buyers will be able to buy the items that are tagged in the photos by clicking on the orange price tag, or clicking through the listing image on the right of the photo.

The Etsy Homepage

You'll also see Shop Updates on the Etsy homepage when you're signed in. Under Updates from shops you like, updates will appear from shops you've purchased from or favorited. If you wish to remove an update that appears in this feed, you can do so by selecting See all and clicking the three dots in the bottom right corner of the update. From here you'll have the option to Hide this update or Hide all updates from this shop.

The Etsy App

Buyers will also be able to browse and shop from the listings that are tagged in your Shop Updates while using the Etsy app. Shop Updates will appear in the Etsy app for buyers that have purchased from you, or have favorited your shop or items. Your Shop Updates will appear in the Recommended tab. Buyers will be able to see your updates and tap through the listings that are tagged. They'll also be able to view a feed containing all of the Shop Updates from sellers they like.

Social Media

If you share to social media, buyers will see a link along with a preview of the Shop Update. If a buyer clicks on this link, it will take them to a page that shows your Shop Update above the listing you have tagged.

If you’re posting to your Facebook business Page, tap on the TAP TO CHANGE link in the top center of the Facebook app. This will let you choose a destination for your post.

Shop Updates and Shop Stats

Here's how your Shop Updates will be reflected in your stats:

Overview Chart

• Total views will go up if someone views your Shop Update, shop homepage, or listing.

• Listing views will go up if someone views your Shop Update. You'll see a second listing view count line as well, which represents the number of listings viewed that contain Shop Updates.

• Shop views will go up if someone views your Shop Updates page.

• You'll be able to see when you created Shop Updates by hovering over the Event icons in your Overview Chart.

Traffic Sources

• Views in Overall traffic sources will go up.

• Shop Updates will have its own row in the Within Etsy table. This number will reflect buyers going from:

• Shop Update > Shop

• Any orange tag in the Etsy app > Listing (from home and feed).

The Etsy App row will not be affected.

What You Can’t See

At this time, we can't separate traffic coming from external sources. For example, if someone clicks on your Shop Update from Twitter, this click will be counted as a Twitter view in the Overall section of your Shop Stats.

Followers, Admirers, and Other Members' Favorites

Followers are Etsy members who want to see story updates on their homepage from the members they're following.

If someone follows you, that means they want to see what items and shops you favorited in their homepage feed. If you'd rather keep your favorites private, learn how to do that here.

Admirers are Etsy members who have favorited an item or shop.

To browse another member's Favorite Lists, click Favorites on their Public Profile.

To see who favorited a shop, click the number of admirers on the main shop page. There's also a Favorited by link on every listing.
