Wonderful, Etsy is doing something against all the spam we receive...
Sadly it is now completely getting out of hand as messages from potential buyers asking for serious information, can end up directly in the spam folder.
I just found a 2 day old message in the spam box from someone wanting sizing information about one of my items.
Please be aware of this.
Thank you for reporting this! We’re dedicated to keeping your accounts and the Etsy marketplace safe and secure.
We’ve been making improvements to help you better identify authentic messages from Etsy. Recently, we’ve worked to reduce the noise in your Inbox by automatically moving potentially suspicious messages to your Spam folder (which you can only check on desktop right now).
As a result of this, some of your messages may have been moved to the Spam folder in error. We’re working to improve the accuracy of these measures and we apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this may have caused.
We’ve also heard your questions and concerns about how this might impact your Star Seller eligibility, which we wanted to clarify. Messages marked as spam by Etsy will not impact your Star Seller eligibility. If Etsy has marked a message as spam that you subsequently move out of the folder, we’ve ensured that also will not impact your Star Seller eligibility.
You can learn more about how to stay protected from potential scams and suspicious messages here.
Thank you for your heads up to the seller community..
Etsy really need to tell us when they make a change like this. There was no need to monitor our Spam folders before because up until a few days ago messages did not automatically go there. Now they do, apparently.
Here is another thread about it
https://community.etsy.com/t5/Managing-Your-Shop/Real-message-automatically-went-to-spam/m-p/1451041...
About 6 weeks ago a message from another seller I'm friends with got put in spam.
We message back and forth at least once a day.
We've been messaging back and forth on the same thread for at least 4 years, maybe 5 years.
One day, her message (the entire thread) got put in my spam folder.
There was NO reason at all for Etsy to put her message in MY spam folder but they did.
Perhaps because it does not fit how messages are to be used? Long back and forth especially since your shop is inactive may have tripped up the bot. I have a thread too in my messages that may end up the same way. I know messages have strict use for and that maybe Etsy is becoming overzealous. Or the bot programming is overzealous.
I have long back and forth threads with other friends and none of their messages have gotten put in my spam folder.
Around that same time I got a SCAM message from a scammer wanting to "buy" my shop but it didn't get put in spam even though it had offsite link to their email to click on.
Contact Etsy to let them know that something like this is happening. THe new blue message may have caused an unforeseen cascade effect.
Also though the potential buyer may have been contacting many people at once and hence the BOT was acting out according to the guidelines they now have.

This is happening to me too. Potential buyers messages are going to my spam! I’ve missed out on multiple orders this week
THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO !
This is happening to me too, with 3 messages so far. It's clearly widespread, lots of sellers in the forums are having this problem.
This is happening to alot of sellers. I had 3 go to spam and lost 2 sales off of it
How does this impact star seller data?
Yes, this is impacting all Etsy sellers.
Still happening. I found several messages in the spam folder, all from legitimate buyers.
A few were overdue to reply so I have to keep them in the spam folder to avoid losing star seller points.
Is there a reason why sellers were not notified of this potential issue? I found 4 messages today that were days old and lost a few sales. Etsy support said "not long ago began to see the situation" when it sounds like it's been 3 weeks where we could have been notified to keep watch.
This is still happening as of 4-11-24. Makes for angry customers and lost sales. Please fix ASAP.
I did file a support request and got a "canned response" from Etsy that doesn't help me at all!
I just want my 100% response rate back.
Etsy takes my starseller.
It's normal test in the live system without understanding the impact
Sometimes bugs occur in the live environment unexpectedly, sure. But as soon as the issue is known, you notify those who could be impacted, not work on fixing it in secrecy while sellers discover it over the course of weeks...
i literally just posted about this this is happening to me past 2 3 days now
It is happening to me since last 4 days for new customer messages only, who are messaging me before purchasing. I don't even know how much loss it has cost me already.
It is happening every day now where actual messages from buyers who are in existing conversations end up in spam. I know how Etsy keeps saying it does not affect everyone but clearly it is affecting enough people for them to look at it
This just happened to me. I was waiting for an answer from a customer and did not receive one so I checked my spam because I saw this thread and it was sent there automatically.
Everyone... Check your spam folder.
This has also been happening to me. Hopefully I don't miss some important messages. I know Etsy is trying to combat scammers.
