I sell beaded bracelets which are strung on the multiple ply metal cable.
These bracelets can't really be adjusted in length without restringing the whole bracelet.
I had a customer wanting the bracelet 1/4" longer pre order and I made this change for the customer.
After delivery the customer asked if I could make it 1/4" shorter.
I told them they would need to pay shipping and send it back to me.
I don't see this as good business - any recommendations

If you only make them in one size, I would specify that somewhere in the listing. If you don't want to have to deal with making custom orders/sizes, I would specify that you don't do custom orders and that the size is the size (but I'd definitely make the size(s) clear).
I put the sizes on every listing. Length and width of bracelets. I also have no custom orders marked. So I guess I'll hold to see if this happens again
Most of the time, buyers don't read the item's details, but some do. If your bracelets are worth the price and a customer willing to pay the shipping both ways, I will adjust the bracelet with no extra cost. Some buyers come back for a repair. In that case I will charge for shipping both ways, extra parts and my time. If they agree to those conditions, I will do the work.
