New month, as you were.

Re: The November Chat

When I was in the counseling center I received calls from drug addicts pleading for help. Here in California and my county the beds were filled an unavailable for helping them. I was told they had to drive down to such and such city to get help. In the meanwhile they needed that fix. Crimes were commited to pay for it. Much more money, beds and counseling need to be made available. Meanwhile the open borders encourages more to bring in drugs. It is a huge social burden issue.

I did my thesis on addictions , post trauma, and its' effect on kids in schools.

Always more clients than there are resources for, it was a big issue in 1981 when I studied it, even bigger issue now.

Re: The November Chat

I just started work on a new pendant. It's weird, and I'm worried I might have crossed the line into ugly. *sigh* I'm too far along to scrap it, so I will just keep plugging along, and hope for the best.

Re: The November Chat

Addiction and alcoholism are the only 2 diseases that that tell the sufferer that its something else that's causing all the problems. Imagine having a cancerous tumor and saying it was just a pimple and if you could just quit scratching it for a week, it would go away. And then, you don't scratch it and you can't sleep or concentrate. You'd scratch it just a little, wouldn't you?

Dianna, I always have the impulse to see what you're up to while you're working on something and saying it's not going well.

Always fun speculating though....

Re: The November Chat

GG & Terri, your comments made me laugh!

It started out with wanting to do an "industrial" look that involved riveting corrugated metal to the back plate. It all went downhill from there. Now I'm trying to decide what to add, to distract & confuse the eye. More rivets? Drill holes? Doo dads? :)

I hope so, Terri! I'm having my doubts.

In other news, I got my fire bezel today. It's really nice!

The beauty of any piece is in the eye of the buyer (beholder). Will be looking forward to seeing it Dianna,

Remelted my kiln failure silver, and sure enough the two tiny sapphires are right at the outer edge of the crucible on top. Floaters! a hammer will dislodge them easily tomorrow. TY for the tips guys.

Hoping Beatrizs' hand an Wendy's migraine are both some better.

Good metaphor for addictive diseases Terri. That terrible itch! I have had people describe it in those very words when I worked in that field.

Re: The November Chat

I wonder why they didn't float before? Something to do with the binder in metal clay?

Re: The November Chat

Maybe because metal clay shrinks, an inward motion.

Re: The November Chat

Maybe the kiln temp was just where it would melt the surface but not get the whole thing molten. Never used metal clay, only guessing.

Re: The November Chat

That would be my guess too, CG.

Good Evening. Just catching up. I had to refund the sale from earlier this week. :-( I was really hoping she would have kept it...oh well. I have been lucky with very few returns, and I think this buyer may come back. :-)

I managed to finish 3 new necklaces tonight. So, I now have a bracelet and 3 necklaces to list. :-)

Pentatonix is fantastic!!! One of my favorite groups! DH and I have tickets to see the Brian Setzer Orchestra for my birthday next month...and then Big and Rich a few weeks later! We rarely go to concerts, so to see 2 in the same month is really amazing. Both acts are playing at the casino about 10 miles from us...so not a far drive and a great venue! The acoustics are amazing!

Wendy...have a great show this weekend! Your set-up looks fantastic! Very inviting.

Re: The November Chat

I am wide awake. I shouldn't have slept this afternoon. It was that kind of sleep where you try to wake up at some point and you can't.

Sorry for the return, Chrissi.

I'm teaching a beginner chainmaille class tomorrow. Premade rings. They are making a Byzantine bracelet. I have 7 signed up.

Re: The November Chat

I love chainmaille Terri, Only attempted one bracelet yrs ago and I kept it for myself. Never did anymore after that. I think my technique sucked.
CG I think it was where the stones were positioned, it was a skull with most of the silver used at the head part with appliques and bezels for the eyes and as the clay shrunk and melted it likely just deposited the extra weight of the clay right on top of the stones and buried them. The skull and bezel sets for the eyes were about 1 cm thick. The rings actually formed puddles of droplets.

Re: The November Chat

No worries...this was from a few days ago, I was waiting on the order to come back. It was discussed before the purchase, as she was trying to coordinate with another piece of jewelry. No biggie.

Re: The November Chat

Bummer about your sugar skull, Kathy. I assume you will be remaking it? I'm still dying to see it finished.

I'm just about finished soldering my "tried too hard to be different and failed" pendant. I added some doo dad wire to it, but it didn't help much. The shape of the pendant is wrong, it's just a mess of different shapes, wires, and a couple rivets that look like blobs. Can you tell that I hate it? :)

Re: The November Chat

I hope she re-orders Chrissi. Matching pieces is difficult unless you can see them together.

Dianna I bet that piece is much better than you give it credit for being.

I will try to remake the sugar skull but Amys birthday was today. Amy is my daughter's best friend since Kindergarten. I put about 3 hours work into carving and creating but didn't make a mold. Maybe for her Christmas gift.

Re: The November Chat

Dianna, maybe it would be fun to try to make it ugly as possible... if that is where it seems to be going, maybe just do it up well and go with it. Not everything has to be a serious work of art. And some serious artists do some seriously ugly stuff.

If you do I am sure someone will love it...

My rainbow stone Cherish Diversity ring sold today. I am glad it found a home! I don't usually do conceptual stuff like that with words.

I thought that was a perfect piece of work for this political climate Dreia, and it was really good looking too. Hard to find those 2 attributes in a ring.

Staying up late watching Bill Maher, he is crass and irreverent but he makes me laugh.
