Yes, and instant access to everything is almost instant access to nothing at all.

Thanks to everyone for reminding me there's music.

I love my Nook too. Still love my library but my nightstand likes the stack of digital books much better than the stack of actual books. I am reading "Bleak House" and it's got digital endnotes...so easy to flip back and forth.

>>> I'm addicted to my nook!

I have a handheld converted to reader by the bed loaded with classics, etc.

Apologetically -- my gripe, which bled into the 'audible' range, was with the more 'social communication' aspect of current tech boom. In the last two days have done some specific research that would have taken literally weeks or months without current access to information.

Below are several lifetimes of public domain literature iffin anyone wants:

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

http://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/meta/authors.html

http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books/

http://librivox.org/

(the last is audio recordings)

I think I understand what you are saying, cg. -- by trying to catch everything, you catch nothing.

I personally prefer enjoying a few things, at my snail pace, rather than skimming lots of things -- even at the expense of missing 'the best', or not knowing what the heck is going on with the rest of the world.

Re: September Chat thread

You said it clearer than I did.

And making it worse, I have a curse/blessing of being interested in almost anything coming down the pike. Used to be there were some practical limits to the access, and with that gone, and so much available at a click, I'm the kid in the candy store frozen into immobility at the choices.

Could be worse.

CG says, "I'm the kid in the candy store frozen into immobility at the choices."

LOL SO FUNNY!

I'm the type that goes into antique store and rummages through the old books to find treasures that have been unread/love for a long time. I have a collection of books from the mid 1800's as well as a few rare editions. a (damaged but real) suede bound Death of a Salesman.

When I moved here I had a 450 mile drive, and two of those pickiup loads were books. Includes 21 of a 25 volume set (c.1900) first English translation of Balzac. Been lugging those around for 45 years - bought for $5, how could you not?

I did stop buying used books about ten years ago.

I would NOT say that, but thanks. And thank you much to Liz for emailing me with some suggestions!

Reading the thread backwards...thanks for all of the nice comments everyone.

SilverBlueberry says
Susan, your site looks amazing! I love it. I think it's very clear, and no frills or messy backgrounds. The photos took a few sec to load for me but it was fast enough to not bother me. If I would change anything it would be having an overview of the different categories with thumbnails, so that you would be more drawn to click on the categories. But it's fine the way it is too.
-----
I like that idea....I'll have to see if I can figure out how to do it!
:)
Still stumbling around in it figuring it out. A work in progress.
Decided to start simple. I can always tweak it as I learn more.

I always get cracked fingers in the dry winter weather....especially when I make jewelry. Not looking forward to that.
Actually use superglue on some of the cracks and it helps. After washing hands well, of course.

stonz, beautiful site showcasing your great work. once again first rate job!

hooray restarting computer fixed whatever the cat hit. browser back arrow working now. he didn't even flinch when he got microchipped today, i though almost passed out when i saw the needle...

rio price went up while i was distracted from my cart this a.m., now i'm not sure if i'm adding more or deleting it all except the torch lighter rachel reminded me i HAD to have.

my birthday tomorrow, yay me, must go in to day job a short time. decided to not to go down to the boat tonite. if there is no fish for dh to catch on sunday we will go down sat nite.
