Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

It feels like autumn tonight, cooler, a bit of rain. The end of one of the most user-friendly summers in years: warm and sunny for all of July & Aug, no extreme heat waves, ocean warm enough to swim in.

Summer was a bit too hot for too long here, and mostly dry. Poplar leaves are drying to a greyish green before there's any frost to turn the colour.

Fall is my favourite.

I am too Jen, got home from my sale only to realize that I had to have a set of plates for my friend's daughter's wedding ready for her to pick up tomorrow night so they can drive out to BC with them. So I am firing. Nutz eh?

this is not something I could say no to.

Happy September.

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

now I'm torch shopping:
http://www.amazon.com/Little-Torch-Outfit-Disposable-Cylinder/dp/B0086GS3Q8/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1...

It's a step down from what I have just dismantled but it's for the disposable tanks. Anyone ever used this model? I think some of my old tips should fit.

Morning :)

September has started with grey skies here - was blazing sunshine yesterday so we took our friends for a walk round to Saltwick bay, which comes complete with shipwreck, fossils and jet

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

I think the Smith Little torch was my favorite torch at my last metalsmithing class, but it's been awhile and I'd best leave the torch advice-giving to others on the thread who are far more qualified and experienced.
When it comes to torches and pickle, I am in CG's camp.

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

I'm sensitive to my dish soap, and I've developed a nasty hurty, itchy spot on my left palm. I need to go back to my Seventh Generation and use the other stuff for car washing and other stuff.

Hubs is going into work for a bit - I need to work on that lady's clutch, so I guess I'm sewing today. :)

Morning. Happy Sept. It's hot as blazes here, but fall is coming.
Kathy. That is the torch I use and I love it. The disposable tanks are more expensive to use, but I feel safer 'cause I use it in the house.

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

I have never figured out the regional boxes thing-= even my PO guys aren't quite sure and I don't think I have ever seen anything marked as such when I pop in to get my free small flat rate boxes.

Boys are off playing golf this morning. Dinner last evening was good but nothing seemed to be going in my favor. Sliced a whole platter of heirloom tomatoes, topped with mozzarella and basil- moving it to another counter dropped the whole thing on the floor- at least I hadn't put on the olive oil yet- so ended August

My packages don't weigh enough to be affected by the new rate changes.. Trying to decide whether to list new pieces today. I hate to list when the majority are out playing on a holiday instead of shopping.

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

Hi all

Have t read back. Missed most of the last couple of days of August.

unfortunately not sure when I'll be able to catch up.

Spent the afternoon into the evening yesterday at the hospital. MIL is in ICU. Her new heart valve apparently isn't working. This is not good. She's isn't doing well at the moment. And they aren't sure exactly what's wrong other than the obvious. My afternoon today will be the same. Staying as long as we can to glean as much info as we can. We stayed long enough to actually see the night rounds of her cardiologist. Who seems very good but very concerned about her complications.

Sorry if I missed anything important. I'll do my best to catch up when I can.

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

Oh no Pennee!
Hate when that happens!

Picked up a huge bag of heirlooms at the farmers market yesterday.
The little ones are like candy.
Sort of glad we don't have any Labor Day plans. I am beat.
I'll be stripping beds and tidying up.

Oh, we went to the blacksmiths home and studio on Saturday. I have photos to share. Will try to post them to Flickr. As I suspected, he and my dh immediately bonded. He played a little banjo and fiddle for us.
I predict there will be a large group of musicians taking over my livingroom for a bluegrass jam session sometime soon.

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

morning all.
terri- not sure everyone is on holiday. I already have 164 views in my shop. that's crazy for me. somebody's shopping

I have been up early, packing. we are leaving today for a trip east. my fear is that cricket won't make it til I get home. I have a house sitter and she and her husband will be here the whole time. she is prepared to handle cricket getting ill while we are gone, but I still feel I should be here for her. hoping she hangs in til we get home.
anyways, the trip is unavoidable- dh's parents also not doing well and we have a 3 day indie fest in boston to go to that we bought tix for like 6 mo ago.
so i'll be in lurk mode a lot or off the thread a bit.

Re: September Chat, Metalsmithing Sense and Sensibility

So sorry to hear that Wendy, I hope they figure out what's wrong and she can be stabilized and the valve repaired. Thoughts are with you.

Sue- you too, I know you'll be worried the whole time. My guess- Cricket isn't going anywhere without saying goodbye to you. Hang in there

Maybe Cricket will hang in there, Sue. Go have a good time.
