There is this shop I keep reporting, the last time I did it I even clearly asked for feedback on why this shop is allowed to continue. Never got any feedback of course. I haven't checked lately but I imagine the shop is still there. Etsy doesn't care, they want the money.
Just checked, it's still there. They clearly state that their business consists of two factories, one for stone cutting and one for making the jewellery, and that is definitely not okay by Etsy rules. Yet my 3x reporting has done nothing.
There are 2 jewelers here on Etsy that do beautiful rings- both cast from their own designs, one full disclosure on her about page- she does it all but from CAD which I guess is the new way of doing "handmade" but she does it all. The other, on Etsy forever, sends out her casting, she does carve etc but on forums said she refused to "disclose" her casting company- she feels she hand selected them and they do great work and would get over run and delay her turn around- so she is using an outside manufacturer and not disclosing-gee, think Etsy cares since she sells megabucks annually?
CG, that shop doesn't even pretend to be handmade. It's all out there in the open, yet nothing happens. They don't have an About page either. That was supposed to be required..
When I was having stuff cast, and received back a rough casting, it never occurred to me it wasn't completely handmade. Any more than when I unwrap a piece of perfectly rolled and annealed to soft sheet...
....which I often used to fabricate the model for casting. Funny world.
Coming out of lurk mode to share a picture from a car show we stopped at this past weekend. I know you all will appreciate this custom shifter we spotted in one of the cars.
I would love to know also Esme- maybe if more than 1 person reports them they will start to notice people actually care. When you have time.
Point was Sue- Etsy said you HAD to disclose- she is thumbing her nose in their face saying yup- I send it out and I am NOT going to disclose, not following your rules. I also know a shop that says they cast everything- and there is no way- if they do, they are buying premade, molding, then casting because I saw 40 new rings in that shop right after we finished a class- no way anyone had time to come back and the following Monday have carvings and castings done. Yes CG, when I have my teacher cast- it is one ton of work cleaning and getting a casting ready to set. One of the reasons I bought some practice stuff- I could have had him cast some for me but I wanted to practice the setting- not cleaning a casting. I say casting is definitely hand made
awesome angela. pennee I understand that the point was she was breaking rules. I guess my pt is that I don't blame her. I probably would too if I thought it would ruin my business. especially since everybody else breaks all the rules and nothing comes of it. I guess I sympathize with her predicament and would likely be a CO too. off for lunch.
