Wendy, I got a lot done, but it was self-directed stuff, and feasible because a big chunk of time was available. As I recall the 40 hour/week jobs I've had, the scarce free hours each day would get frittered away.
I was always destined to be self-employed, I don't take direction well.
Wendy, if it makes you feel better, since 1976 I've three times had 5 or 6 days off, in l976, l980, and 1986. Since then, only the occasional single days off.
Esme - not sure. I was talking to my father about that. he isn't that much further north than we are but it doesn't get fully dark til 11 there this time of year. In the winter its much darker much more of the day and many people get depressed. DH would be one of those people. He's a sun lover.
Congrats again Sue- this is going to be super nice for you for exposure!! It will be awesome.
Esme, I have never had those Borek things, but they look wonderful and I am going to try to make them- they sound similar to spanakopita just look skinnier- yumm
No vacation is not good for anyone- you need to regroup and re- energize- unless you work for yourself and then you never get a vacation
yes that's me Pennee. Ive worked for myself for 16 years.
in more fun news it appears our local farm stand has raspberries. my very favorite fruit. anyone want to bet whether any actually make it home from my trek up to get some?
I still find it hard with the darkness Wendy. It's a big difference compared Holland. And in summer too. Sun in the middle of the night, it's just not right! (should be a slogan)
Pennee, I think they make great appetisers, or finger food if you cut them into smallish squares. Since you entertain.. :)
... In the winter it's much darker much more of the day and many people get depressed. DH would be one of those people. --------------- I would be one of those people, too, I think. Actually, I can probably handle fairly short daylight hours as long as they are sunny. Winter in northern Japan was like that, as it would start getting dark at around 3 in the afternoon[*]. But our first winter there, most days were sunny and it was fine.
[*] Which doesn't entirely make sense to me, because where we were was only 39 degrees north latitude -- the same as Washington, DC.
Good stuff, Beatriz. I also just got a repeat buyer from 3 years ago.
Matthew, a low or high horizon (where you were in Japan??) can make some difference in the perception of it's getting dark. Also, the placement within the time zone can add or subtract up to half an hour.
There are mountains to the west, which would make it seem earlier. Plus, it's farther east in its time zone than Washington is. It doesn't seem like these would be enough for it to be getting dark at 3:00. (But obviously they are, because physics.)
