Unh, so sorry Tess. You need to come up with a plan B, it'll make you feel better. Maybe a different vet? Probably you would have done that if you could.

I hope it works out. :(

Sorry, Tess. I hope you get it straightened out in time. Moving across the pond sounds like a very tedious process. Thank goodness you are moving to such a beautiful place.

Re: Ain't no Foolin' - we be chatting through April! April Chatty Thread

I think it just gets extra stressful when it's about your pets. It's not a piece of furniture you can ask someone to store for you until you get it figured out...

I am extra happy we are moving in the summer time. No need to pack big coats and long-johns. And it is super pretty in the summer :)

It'll be fine in the end. It's just getting there that's going to be so stressful.

OK, off for a brisk walk while #2 rides her bike.

Jeanne since we are taking the cats as our carry ons we have to check the rest of our luggage. Checking in bikes as well would be very costly. Not to mention it's quite the hassle to drag around giant suitcases and cat carriers alone... But we did think about it. I am going to try and trick the moving company to let us come and get the bikes out of the container before we find a permanent living.

I'm thnking that Sweden must be awash in bikes, would it be easier to leave them behind?

Again, I'm hot on the trail of the obvious.....

Re: Ain't no Foolin' - we be chatting through April! April Chatty Thread

self insuring means that every time I don't pay whichever company $3.00 or whatever for insurance, I save it up in a pot. in my case an imaginary one.

Registered is not perfect, but it ships from locked bag to locked bag and has to be tracked from place to place. Everyone who handles it is a specially trained person in the post office. That's what the extra 11.50 you pay is for. So the chances of something happening to it are much lower than with regular mail. And so far so good; the 2 times I have had packages go astray, one to Germany and one to Canada were both recovered and delivered.

the last higher value package I sent was for 1400.00 and that one I shipped expressmail, and it was insured for the entire amount, I believe it cost me 35.00 and they let me tie it on the pigeon too.

I'm sure it will work out Tess. Although I imagine its very stressful. I love my pets like I love my kids, so I get it.

Re: Ain't no Foolin' - we be chatting through April! April Chatty Thread

We own like 4-5 bikes and they (IKEA) will move them to Sweden free of charge. The problem is that we don't really have access to the container once it reaches sweden and is put in storage. When we are in temporary living for 3-4 months we get a furnished apartment so we won't get our stuff until we find a permanent home and schedule for delivery.

Apparently you CAN get some stuff out of the container if it's packed in a certain way and easy to get to. BUT it's a huge expense.. So maybe I'll just play stupid and get the bikes and when IKEA asks about the huge bill I'll just say I didn't know :)

Re: Ain't no Foolin' - we be chatting through April! April Chatty Thread

i think i've figured out what pet arrangements to make weekend of son's wedding. board the dog, lock each cat up in separate areas of the house so they can't play rough with each other those days. quite a travel dilemma for me for many years with my big savannah, ( he started to climb in refrig. this a.m. and dh is still afraid to grab him) even the F3 could be a problem for a kennel. seems there is a benefit to having a son living at home lol

do they have bicycle recycling places in Sweden?
I know we have a couple places like that, where you go and they have bunches of bike parts, and everyone volunteers and builds bikes for each other....and then you could donate it when you're done?

hmm I don't know Rachel. I have to look it up. I've never heard of it though. I do know in some cities in Sweden they have "borrow" bikes. They are free of charge for you to use but you have to return them to certain designated locations. I should find out if they have those in Malmo...

I do what Rachel does, right down to the pot being imaginary.

Just on the Expedited to the US, for which any insurance value of over $100 has to bought as an extra, I'm far ahead in the wallet. And for international, even more into the imaginary pot.

It also saves the time involved in making a claim, something you don't want to put a stop watch on. A real time eater .And a hassle I'll avoid.

Hey all...
what a hassle, Tess. Wish I had suggestions. As usual, I do not.

Enormous graphics project just hit my desk. Grr. Really feel like working with stone and metal instead.

imaginary savings pot...
Had one for years over a series of numbers I play on one of the Lotto games. Seems like I was always winning $2, nothing ever really big (only once in a while). I said hmmm I should put that $2 in a pot every time I win. Finally did last year. Ended up with a little over $200. So my DH and I used it for our anniversary. I immediately started another and raised it to any wins up to $20 go in the pot.

Re: Ain't no Foolin' - we be chatting through April! April Chatty Thread

the service that means a lot to me with the registered is the tracking and proof of delivery, that's what has saved me stress and hassles.

the indemnity is 47.00 anywhere. its a token. and I'll take it if they mess up, but that's not why I ship registered. Lately they have added 2 little boxes for adding insurance to the form, but so far none of the countries I have shipped to allow more.

and I don't understand why Laura's cost 19.00 - I just recently shipped to UK and I didn't pay over 16.00 - so be careful on the weight. It is airmail.
