I'm missing too, but just joined this week and have been lurking and chuckling. I'm Joni from Seattle. I've been a long time fiberartist and beader/wireworker. Just finished my beginning metalsmithing class at Pratt and a couple of other classes and mentored study groups. I'm having fun and learning a lot!

Happy April! Today's the day to start tomato seeds indoors. Yay!

Morning Laura and Pennee! I think I'm already too late for tomatoes.. I should really start in March with those.

Do they sell ones that are already started in Sweden Esme? If I forget and don't get on the ball, we have a zillion farmer's markets and even hardware stores that sell plants here that are already started for you- just stick em in the ground and watch em grow. I admit to doing that with tomatoes- I like to have several varieties in my garden and it's just not worth starting that many types myself. Plus, I have an in with someone who has some amazing heirloom tomatoes and I get a few of my favorites from her every year.

I'm starting seeds for about 8 varieties. Then I've ordered a few grafted tomato plants to try. Grafting onto hardy, disease resistant stock supposedly makes an amazingly productive plant. We'll see!

everybody's spoons sound fancy! mine is pretty plain. just a wooden spoon.

i should be able to make it to the library today to post pics. library has been swamped on sundays with computer users though.

I traditionally start them on April 1st, Chris. That way they're not too leggy when they get transplanted in mid May. They're usually about 20" tall by then.

Pennee, yes they do, but that feels like cheating. ;) Maybe I should get one of those plants though. It is nice with fresh tomatoes that feel warm from the sun.

No spoon here either. I always say I'm going to try, then work and stuff gets in my way. Spring is one of my busiest times- I'm always torn- clean up the yard, clean the house- oh and that pesky day job takes up a bunch of time too. I know exactly where you are Esme!
