Hi, my name is Patt, and I live on the coast, about 30 minutes from San Francisco. I took an early retirement as a middle school English and Health teacher in 2007, and a path led me to knitting and weaving, then jewelry making. I had never thought of myself as artistic, but apparently it was in there somewhere. 

I took up knitting, then weaving because of the foggy coast, but found I loved every minute of the process, and when I took a class on knitting with wire to make beaded necklaces, I was doomed. I've traveled 3 times to Czechia to buy beads from the factories...a curse and a blessing? About 6 years ago, I was shown how to ice dye at a workshop, and doomed again. I have turned my garage into a dye studio with close to 100 different dye colors. I'm not really doomed--I'm living my best life.

I love being part of an art community. I started an art group in 2010 for anyone in any medium, and have over 100 members. We met monthly until 2020--usually 20-25 of us--to socialize, network, discuss our work with show and tell, and sometimes do projects together. We just got back to meeting monthly this year. I would encourage anyone who feels isolated to start an art group near you. I'm available to help with ideas for how to get started.

Hi, I am Hlye, living in Singapore.

I grew up in a family where my parents handmade almost everything in our home. My dad built our fishing pond, a small waterfall, plant pots, a reflexology path, and more. My mom made our clothes, bags, stationery cases, wove baskets to use as dustbins and storage boxes, and more. I spent a lot of time playing with plants and insects in the garden, so it was natural for me to pursue my first degree in the Faculty of Built Environment after high school. After my internship in a sculptural art and landscape architecture company, and several years of working in an architecture firm, I decided to take a postgraduate degree in literature, as I love to dive into the world of poems and novels in addition to the arts.

I started my Etsy shop a few months ago to focus myself and calm my mind to overcome with grief during the pandemic. My artworks are inspired by nature, my upbringing, and my travels around the world. I made a sale but then no more progress. Thank you so much, Mike, for inviting me into this group. I am glad to be a part of the community and I hope my shop will perform better over the time.

@LeafWithNature WE'RE SO HAPPY YOU'RE HERE HLYE!  It sounds like you grew up in a wonderfully creative and loving home.  And have a great curiosity for life.

And it's great that you have found a healthy way to take care of yourself.  So many of us need to better at that.  Congrats on your 1st sale.  There will be many more.  The best advice for your shop is to just keep making and adding artwork to your shop.  More art = more traffic = more sales.  Once you have 150 items, Etsy will boost promotions of your shop.  And other things will start to become more important.

Historically, sales will improve in April and May as people start buying new homes or redecorate current homes.  But, the holiday season (October - December) usually accounts for 75-80% of sales.  So, focus on making new pieces to sell

Hello! I’m Harriet, and my shop is Spaceychic Woodcuts. 

I have been making woodcuts and prints for about 30 years, off and on.  I want to be more productive and show them to the public.  I have received compliments regarding the sentimental qualities of my work. People who have acquired my prints have told me they invoke their own memories of friends and happy times. That makes just elated!  That is my goal.
