HELP IMPROVE THE ART TEAM!

Allegedly, Etsy gives "more weight to real, organic placed Faves from a searching buyer, as opposed to click click click faves from fellow team members/sellers." This is to prevent skewing relevancy rating that could come from hundreds of favourites. Even if most of us sellers are also buyers.

So, what can we do to help each other boost sales if viewing, faving, and other games don't help anymore? Please post your suggestions here and we'll try them out. THANKS!!!

I disagree with Etsy's Hype about views and faves. They are trying to move people to purchased promotions. When an item is faved, it is placed in that person's favored feed sent to their followers...it might not carry any weight but it does get it out there. Viewing helps in moving the item up on the search pages. My sales come from both of these things. I like the threads you have now, a great variety and a lot of excellent shops faving and viewing. Promoting with Pinterest, Instagram and Google may be done every time you do a shop update, also very important. All this negativity about faves and viewing killed the last team I was on...

THANKS SYLVIA! There are no plans to get rid of the current games. But, "all the negativity" around the games has dramatically reduced participation, addition of new members, and caused a mass exodus of members. So, the goal is to find ways to help each other boost sales. If that can be done through games, discussions, social media, or whatever, we want to try. We're all about helping each other find success doing what we love. THANKS AGAIN!

I agree with sylvia. I think views carry more weight than favs...and incognito views are the best. Any sort of incognito viewing threads are where I think most of us need to be spending time on. On the days I do more incognito viewing, the more sales I get.

Etsy saying they filter out these team views is ridiculous. They can't tell anything from an incognito browser

Hi everyone! Mike, just like Jo Pritchard I like pinterest games. Specially daily games.
It connects pinterest with Etsy shop. We get more visibility on Pinterest, then social, organic traffic to our shop and new favourite to our item. So it's 3 in 1.

Maybe some games like "post one link off pintrest - pin 20" would be cool. Multiple threads. I noticed that Pinterest works pretty good for sales.

Maybe start more group boards on Pinterest? I started one with one other seller and I could invite more people.

Now the policy of Etsy is aimed at attracting external visits. Views from FB, Pinterests and others are welcome.
"PINTEREST GAME! Post 1 and Pin 5" - is very correct direction.

BUT!

What to do with laziness, not attentiveness, cheating?
Team members easily click on the hearts, but games for viewing already causes problems. Go to Pinterest and then go to the shop - it's hard (for many)! :-)) and who will check?

For example: Ira Comleva every hour inscribes herself in the game CLICKATHON (24VIEWS) and does not go to previous shops. What to do with such clever girls?

Hello Vita, yes, I can hear you - you are right, a lot of cheating in games such CLICKATHLON 24 views i noticed myself, while I watching thru the items of the shop above with my sooo slow internet, when I come back, there are already one or 2 who said "done". Pfff.

Dont know what we really can do here, I got tired if all those constant Etsy changes, every time after some new updates in that system I (and most of the shops Im sure) feel invisible..

And Mike Kraus, may I also get an invitation to Pinterest' group? Me personally think that Pinterest works better for attracting customers.

In the sellers handbook, there's something about "listing quality" score, but I can't find that right now. But, here's something from an Etsy employee about it.

I’m Jaime and I’m the Group Product Manager working on Search. You may have seen some of my past posts about the factors that contribute to your item’s relevance in Etsy’s search or other announcements. With my presentation at the recent Etsy Up conference, my aim was to help sellers better understand how Search on Etsy works and provide some best practices for optimizing their listings for it. Unfortunately, we don’t have a transcript of the talk. I’ve answered some of your questions here.

+++ Is Etsy trying to remove view or favorite inflation from “click team” or organized favoriting activities?

It appears that some sellers have organized with teams or member groups to systematically view and favorite one another’s items to influence search placement. We’re actively working on ways to better discern between these different types of favoriting activities and when an item is trending or gaining bona fide interest from buyers. We’d like the search algorithm to rely on signals that mirror common shopper behavior. While clicking and favoriting activities do not currently have a negative impact on an item’s search placement, we are monitoring this behavior to ensure that it does not improve an item's placement in search.

Like all work on the search algorithm, this will always be a work in progress.

+++ Should I stop participating in clicking and favoriting games?

Clicking and favoriting activities with the intention of increasing search ranking is not something we encourage. To help improve your search placement, we recommend spending your time on improving your listing quality by working on your tag and title relevance. You can also encourage clicks, favorites, and purchases from search results by making your product photographs really interesting and “clickable” which will in turn help your placement. These are the most reliable methods for improving your placement within Etsy’s search results.

You may also want to focus your energy on driving traffic to your shop and listings from outside of Etsy (through social media and blogs) which will also help to improve your SEO outside of Etsy.

+++ Is Etsy asking sellers to stop favoriting and viewing each other items completely?

Nope! This is a pretty fantastic community of talented makers and curators and we know how fun it is to browse and shop from one another’s offerings.

+++ How does clicking and favoriting activity impact the search relevance of an item on Etsy?

If a buyer clicks, favorites, or purchases an item after they’ve seen it in search results, that action contributes to the listing’s quality score which can positively impact the listings placement in search. If an item is clicked or favorited outside of search results (through another shopping experience or directly from the shop), there is no impact on search placement. An item that receives a favorite, regardless of the source, may get the added bonus of exposure through a buyer’s activity feed.

Cheating on teams has become a very difficult issue for Captains and Leaders of all teams. Etsy provides no tools for us to manage. A particular problem recently is the new Etsy Stats. To be honest, they are very inaccurate. Compared with Google Analytics, only 40% of traffic is being recorded on Etsy Stats. Add to that that it can take 24 hours for views, hearts, and other actions to show up, it's causes all sorts of problems.

For example, a member participated in a post 1/fave 5 game correctly. I received 3 "report this post" violations on this member because their hearts did not appear in 3 other member's stats until the next day. This occurs for multiple people in multiple threads everyday. So, my inbox has become very full and can take days to clear.

I have found that cheating is occurring in the favoring threads I play. There are many ways to check. It is a fact of the games as people think they can post and run. Most hearts show up in the dashboard feed immediately unlike the views. There are really no ways to check the views for cheaters, but if the shop cheats on favors, he will cheat on views...so kick the shop off the team. People are also double posting, if they are favoring then why aren't they catching that if intent is not there.
