How do you know if you are being scammed?

Someone wants to buy a wholesale order off of me and they dont want to pay though paypal they want to send me a check. I insisted that they pay with pay pal and they ordered the item today and checked out with other, so I guess they are sending me the check. Does this sound scamish to you? ( Yeah I made up that word)

i would ask for a tin tax id number and the location of there store.

or get the check and do not ship until it clears.

if there is a branch of that bank near you you can go and have it cashed at the branch. if you do not have an account with that bank they may charge you for it.

i have done that on large orders

I agree with Darby. Whether you are or not, waiting to ship until the check has cleared will keep you safe .
