ugh just talked to my dad and they had to put down sable our family dog this morning, she had a tumor the size of a baseball attached to her spine and liver, she's not been doing so well the last few months, but had no idea she had this tumor. they said they could operate but it would only prolong her life maybe 60 days tops and it would be so rough on her, and she was in such pain .... :( poor sable she was such a good dog!

thanks girls! :( so sad... but i think we did what was best, trying to keep her aroound and make her go through surgery would have been for us, not her. its awful to think she's had this going on for months and we never knew it :(

Last week was the first week she didn't throw up or refuse to eat. I think she's finally turned the corner. I was starting to worry the cancer might have spread.

she was 13! or well would have been 13 in june... so she lived a long happy life! we knew she was not doing well, she was falling a lot, couldnt climb the stairs anymore... but she never showed she was in pain, but the doc said she had to be in horrible pain, but she was always such a silent dog. my dad and i both were like every time we picked her up it must have just been so painful for her! ugh

So she was a little dog? My daughter's childhood dog lived to be almost 20 and she fed him chocolate almost every day of her life. Kind of disproves the theory that chocolate is bad for dogs.

she stuck by my side through all my medical stuff, never left my feet! dogs just give that unconditional love! my dad and i couldnt figure out what to do with her tags/collar so i asked him if he could bury them next to the tree they planted in my uncles honor (who passed 2 years ago)... so i think they are gonna do that later today. seems fitting.

We've only lost one animal since we've lived here and he's (Chester the cat) is buried in the fern and hosta garden.
