Can I some idea on how people go about pricing their patterns. I usually get some idea of the cost if other items are posted on the internet, then I have a look at the condition etc and decide whether the pattern is "appealing" or "hard to get". Then i go from there. Any ideas on how I could do it better?

Re: Pricing patterns

Pretty pattern. I'd have a good look around on the net. Given the comments about the patterns not being seasonal or currently available in mass quantities, I tend not to undercut other sellers unless you can't personally justify it. After all it is a business.

Re: Pricing patterns

Hi,

I have to agree with all the ladies on pricing.
I've only sold 1 pattern I priced at $95 and it sold within a few weeks. I'd finally gotten over the "working for peanuts" and price for profit. It takes me roughly an hour to check , iron, and list one pattern so if you price at less than 7 or 8 dollars -- that below poverty level.

Re: Pricing patterns

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I'll list it at $85 and see how it goes!

Re: Pricing patterns

Hi Bessie,

I think $85 to $95 is a great price. Pauline Trigere patterns fetch a high price on Ebay, go and do a completed item search for "Pauline Trigere" and see what come up. Selling on Etsy, i like to think of myself as a pattern boutique where people can come and browse and not be put off by the bidding process like Ebay. When I shop a boutique I expect to pay boutique prices, and when something is as rare as that pattern is... you have to get what you deserve for it. Good luck with that pattern it is outstanding! Wish I had one like it.

Re: Pricing patterns

My Patterns were an investment too, there are some that could go for $.99 but I tend to put them in Lots with other related pieces a la eB*y. The valuable ones speak for themselves and depend on era. And yes, NEW patterns are not cheap.

I used to do Costumes for Film so I know some of these have a serious worth for Designers who are looking, as well as Fashion Designers who use them for inspiration so yes trends are really helpful. Vintage children's clothing in good shape is really hard to find so we used to make it (mine are in Cradle Will Rock).
