Pattern Selling Question

Hello friends!

Although I'm not a very handy seamstress myself, I am fascinated by vintage sewing patterns, especially ones dating 1960s and earlier.

I have a handful of vintage patterns that have already been cut, but still appear to be in good condition and have all the pieces. Is a cut pattern a deal breaker for those looking for patterns?

I'd love some helpful tips on this!

Thanks!
Lisa :)

Re: Pattern Selling Question

No, its not a deal breaker at all.... just make sure all the pieces are there! Sometimes even if its missing a small piece like a facing, just make sure to note it in the listing....

Re: Pattern Selling Question

Another question. What happens when you discover pattern pieces missing from vintage patterns. Is it best not to try to sell them or to let the buyer know?

Re: Pattern Selling Question

Depends on the piece. If it's a critical piece like the front of a jacket keep it in case you ever find another pattern like it but don't bother listing it. If it's a guide for elastic casing list it but disclose it in your listing.

Re: Pattern Selling Question

Yes, it all depends on what piece is missing. If I'm missing, for example, a waist stay, I'll list it but make sure to put in the description that it's missing.

Re: Pattern Selling Question

No matter what you are selling I think it's always fine so long as you explain whether a pattern is cut or not and whether there are pieces missing.

For example you may decide to sell a suit pattern with a missing jacket piece that someone may buy because they just wanted the skirt pieces anyway.

Re: Pattern Selling Question

A lot of sewers are able to re-create missing pieces.

As the others said, just list the missing pieces in the description.
